TYPICAL of a treacherous woman...

After humming, and hahhing and spending the past 6 months researching, evaluating, compiling and picking everyone's brains regarding the suitability or not, of a DR650 for my proposed trans Africa trip... I've finally done it.

Gone and bought an XT600 Tenere today.

:confused1:

It gets worse.

I actually bought TWO XT600 's today!

Well, they looked very nice. And shiny. And - they were soooo lovely, standing there, identical. Even the same number plates, bar one digit.

I had visions of us two girls flying across the desert in our matching bikes... sigh!.... It was too beautiful to resist.

(I've bullied a friend to come with me.. she's never ridden a bike.. I'm teaching her at present.. on my KTM Duke... she's getting on just grand!)

Paid cash.

Cripes!

Random, random, random.....! Just as life should be! :thumbup1:
Nice one!
Tim.

Well, there's a turn up for the books

Impasto,

You could have done worse: you could have bought 3!

Now the DR650 prep page will never be finished? and you are banished from this forum across to the Yam Tech pages, where you will quickly become lost among all of the other XTs.

But, there you go; "Once a girl makes up her mind, etc etc".

One question though; did you get new ones, and how much for cash? (discount for 2 as well?).

Good travelling,

XT GIRL 26 Jan 2008 05:38

All is not lost...

Nope - didn't buy new ones.

Very, VERY old ones. In fact, the bikes are almost as old as we are!

1986 1VJ's.:eek3: [Gulp]

HOWEVER! I bought them from a seasoned old desert racer, whose arteries run thick with offroad and enduro dust. And he's worked on the bikes and lovingly made the mods necessary to solve their weaknesses. He owns an enduro outfit - so I'm relying on his integrity and reputation.

What can I say, I'm so trusting... another adventure rider will NEVER sell two vulnerable girls a lemon... will he?

I paid just over £2,000 for the two. The bikes are in tip-top condition - I've been looking for ages, and have NEVER seen bikes this clean.

I'm hoping that I also bought into years of experience and support from the dealer. He's a nice guy, and has already offered to give us some TYRE CHANGING LESSONS etc.

Still ---- I'm gutted. Can't BELIEVE I bought two ARMCHAIRS :wheelchair:to go around the world with. lol.

I CAN still change my mind, you know!

So presumptious, gentlemen!

I'm still a PROUD DR owner! My first love, a DR600 Dakar, is still the grand lady of my collection -- so you're not getting rid of me THAT easily!

PLUS - I'll be doing a 3 week (practise) trip in the Namib, next month. On a DR650...

PLUS - having bought two XT's doesn't mean I can't STILL change my mind you know... :cool4:

I'll

Dessertstrom 26 Jan 2008 16:18

?????????

Eeny meany miny mo make your mind up I don't know,
turning east turning west I don't know which bike is best.:eek3:

Add up the number of bikes you like and get the same number of balls and write the name of each bike on a separate ball.:scooter: Throw all the balls in the air and the one you catch is the bike you should get. :cool4:
Then again you would most likely go for best of three throws.

Cheers
Ian:thumbup1:

Maybe we'll see a generic 'setting up your single cyclinder motorcycle' thread thingy ... Good luck.

XT GIRL 30 Jan 2008 05:13

Its pure poetry

Impasto,

Nice garage of bikes there; perhaps you will end up taking the DR600 on your travels?
Yes, the generic bike prep page is definitely the way to go, but have you got time for that, now you have two bikes to maintain?!

XT GIRL 31 Jan 2008 22:45

What?

You'll have to believe whatever you want to believe, but I would support that line with 7 bikes in there, not counting a new(ish) XT. He has no time for anything else. :rolleyes2:

You have certainly got plenty to hone your mechanical skills there - must cost a fortune in shop manuals alone!!

Walkabout 1 Feb 2008 16:52

Now you are slumming it in the HUBar

Aah Impasto! I've just found you relegated to "the Bar" - you have the somewhat dubious distinction of being the first thread to be thrown into this wilderness.
"Welcome to the fight club" might be a suitable greeting for today!!!!:(

Matt Cartney 9 Feb 2008 16:36

Ah, the XT was the right choice! You will come to learn, in time, that the XT is the greatest bike ever made...

Matt :)

Alas, you found me!

Since my posts are often more entertaining than educational, I thought I could hide out here, and not unleash the wrath of the moderators. :rolleyes2:

I'm working hard on coming up with some intelligent questions though... just you wait and see.

Matt,

You don't know HOW much I needed to hear those words today. I got back on my KTM Duke II this morning and...

Well, I'll give the XT time...

Sigh.
