The HUBB PUB Chat forum - no useful content required!

BUT the basic rules of polite and civil conduct which everyone agreed to when signing up for the HUBB, will still apply, though moderation will be a LITTLE looser than elsewhere on the HUBB.

Lawyer tastes his own medicine :)

Charlotte , North Carolina
A lawyer purchased a box of very rare and expensive cigars, then insured them against, among other things, fire!
Within a month, having smoked his entire stockpile of these great cigars and without yet having made even his first premium
payment on the policy the lawyer filed a claim against the insurance company.
In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost 'in a series of small fires.'
The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason, that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion.
The lawyer sued and WON!
(Stay with me.)
Delivering the ruling, the judge agreed with the insurance company that the claim was frivolous. The judge stated nevertheless,
that the lawyer held a policy from the company, which it had warranted that the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that it
would insure them against fire, without defining what is considered to be unacceptable 'fire' and was
obligated to pay the claim.
Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal process, the insurance company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000 to the
lawyer for his loss of the cigars lost in the 'fires'.
NOW FOR THE BEST PART.
After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had him arrested on 24 counts of ARSON!!!
With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case being used against him, the lawyer was convicted of
intentionally burning his insured property and was sentenced to 24 months in jail and a $24,000 fine.

This is a true story and was the First Place winner in the recent Criminal Lawyers Award Contest!!!

I had to check on "snopes"
They say its a old internet story from 1997 which was going around before the internet from the 1960's.

Yah, it makes a good story, but it's nonsense. Persons wishing to avoid making fools of themselves should check Snopes.com before forwarding anything, no matter how enticing. It takes approximately 60 seconds to check. Most of what people send you--even the ones which claim to have been authenticated by Snopes--are false.

I wish half the nonsense I read about happening here, there and everwhere, were on Snopes.com.

Unfortunately, some of the most ridiculous rulings seem to be quite real...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
