Jeeeeez louise am I just bored with being home.

How do you fill the void ??? After a brilliant trip i just cant find joy in anything I used to before I did my trip. Nothing seems to quench for excitement.

Im at least 12-18 months off another trip and the planning, dreaming and plotting just aint working like it used to.

I used to love loads of things that I think I just thought I loved (comprende?)

you go away and find out what real living is all about. No amount of cinima going, pub visiting or the other "jonny 9-5" things fill the void anymore.

What are the recommended tonics for the "inbetween trip" blues ??

I know this has been discussed before but typing this just killed another 5 mins :)

Perhaps we should start a 'HUBBers Support Group for Returned Veteran Travelers'...! In fact, I think I'm going to one tomorrow night in Edinburgh at the Cafe Royal...

I know that now I'm back, I find a lot of things piss me off about being here. Like the weather for one thing! And then there's the whole 'British Booze' culture which I didn't miss in the slightest when I was away. Or the depressing 'there's no news like bad news' type media we have. I could go on...

I guess traveling like this really focuses your mind on what's important to you because sometimes you have nothing else to think about if you're traveling on your own. It perhaps becomes easier to see where you've gone wrong in life before and might help you to focus on something that you maybe didn't have much enthusiasm or commitment for before, as Albert says, maybe think of a business venture for example. I was always hoping for that 'epiphany moment' when the perfect job would just come to me in dream but rightly or wrongly, I took up my old position when I got back last month mainly because in this current uncertain economic climate, I figured 'better the devil you know'. For the time being at least...

But after being out my flat for 2 years (Christ, has it been that long?) I'm actually quite looking forward to getting my old place back again and looking forward even more for my first pay packet in a very, very long time! (though I know I'll probably just spend it all on guitars...)

Hi Mike, just a cheeky thought. Would you have the space for four people paying for a week in January? A Brasilian girl, boyfriend and parents want to visit Edinburgh then and want to stay with locals, so the thought struck me. It's that or a Gilmore Place B and B which I thought of first. Linzi.

Hmmm, yes that is a cheeky thought! I probably will put up travelers now and again but unfortunately not 4 folk as its not that big a flat. I can only swing approximately half a cat in the kitchen..

Couch-surfing is a great way to get over the blues if you've got a couch (or even if you haven't actually). Sign up and make an offer or two and the world comes to you, it's almost like travelling and far cheaper. You get to meet new people, get to see where you live through their eyes, and of course you can end up with a bunch of contacts to visit on your next trip. I've had people stay from all over the world and also from just round the corner, and it does seem like most people who do it have the travelling mindset. I've also couchsurfed with people who really don't live that far away from me, and again it gets you out of the "I'm at home, so I'm not travelling" blues.

The other thing to try, is be a traveller where you live. How many of us really know what's just round the corner from where we live? I know I didn't and now I've moved and only now do I read things about places I never went to, things I never visited. So get down your local tourist office and pick up all the leaflets, pull out maps and look for great roads, and tour where you live.

I saw a report on ADVrider where a bunch of guys got together and hit the mud in Wales.A guy called Timpo seemed to be the organiser and being as it,s all close to home or a four or five hour drive.It,d be a real challenge.
I,ll be going to Cartagena in mid November! that,ll be a whole different challenge.

Seriously, just get into planning the next big Trip and only hang around with fellow travellers who understand that returning from a trip SUCKS. :thumbdown:
