Man missing for four months in Andes found
From: AAP September 09, 2013 6:20AM

A 58-YEAR-OLD Uruguayan man missing in the Andes since May has been found alive by border police near Barreal in Argentina's San Juan province.

Raul Fernando Gomez Cincunegui survived on sugar, raisins and food that was in mountain huts in the Andes mountains. He also hunted rats with a homemade trap, according to his rescuers.

Gomez Cincuengui lost 20 kilograms and was severely dehydrated, but was otherwise in good condition, doctors treating him at a hospital in San Juan, Argentina, said. He was transported to the hospital Sunday by helicopter after the border police found him in the valley of Los Patos Sur, which has an elevation of 4500 metres, state news agency Telam said.

The Uruguayan citizen was greeted at the airport by the governor of the San Juan district, Jose Luis Gioia, who described the return of Gomez Cincuengui as a "miracle" survival.

Gomez Cincunegui's odyssey began on May 11 when he travelled from Argentina into Chile on his motorcycle. On his return trip, the motorcycle broke down and he decided to set out on foot. He asked his wife to report him missing if she didn't hear from him within a week. He apparently lost his orientation during two snow storms.

Seems this guy was not lost but hiding. It's reported today he has been wanted on pedophilia charges, has now been arrested.

surprised he didn't do a 'canoe man' job then, or a reggie Perrin as it's otherwise known.

Thought there was good material for a book there but maybe not now!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
