Average weight of equipment for 2 week+ trips?

I did a search and didn't come up with anything. There's already a thread then please point me in the right direction.

Just curious if there's a "somewhat" average weight of equipment that people carry on longer trips. I know that the weights can vary GREATLY as tools and electronic equipment, carrying extra fuel (and other fluids) as well as camping equipment can fluctuate.

If there isn't already a thread about equipment/luggage, then maybe we can get one going, so noobs like me can have somewhat of an idea of how much people tend to carry.

I would imagine the biggest weight difference, and therefore category, would be those who camp and those who stay in hotels/hostels?

So you experienced campers and non-campers, mind posting up your figures?

A suggestion:

Create an Excel spreadsheet ( to save re adding/subtracting all the time)
LIST your kit
WEIGH your kit
all of it - including thoses pesky itsy bitsy bits which don't really weigh much....
Then you have something to compare.

There are too many variables-
For some it could be 20 grams of credit card from the bank of mom and dad...
For others- it's a half a ton Gold Wing with trailer and surf board
Anyway is good as it is your way- but I'd suggest you carry out the above exercise- it's a good base to work from and discuss.

Then your learn how to pack
Then you can use the same spreadsheet to balance the weight of your kit in your bags be they metal or soft
Then you go on a shake down mini trip and see how you get on.

Come home, adjust your spreadsheet accordingly - add stuff you needed- remove stuff you did not. And so on.
Repack- try again- It's a never ending refining art-

Then you are one step closer to really knowing what works for you and THAT is the important part.

and now I am down to 34Kgs without sacrificing comfort/tools or a few spares/ fishing rod/carving kit etc !!

Thanks. Yes, spreadsheets are always great.

I've been living in Central America for a few years and have lived in Europe, so I've lived out of a backpack and travel pretty regularly. I just started considering more adventurous trips on a moto. A majority of my riding experience has been in the USA, and while I've done plenty of 300+ mile days, and a number of long weekends out of state, I haven't had to pack for much more. A lot of my camping trips have included 30-40lbs of gear in a backpack, but I'm assuming that adding tools and things for a bike should increase the load a bit.

This thread was to get an idea of what people bring and typically how much it weighs.

Going to Nicaragua for a week, leaving on Friday, so I'll post up my packing list and luggage weight.
