Robert Dunlop RIP

This might not be the most appropriate spot to drop sad news, but I thought some of the travelling riders might want to know. Robert Dunlop, Joey's brother, died today from chest injuries after an accident at the NW200.

How very sad, I was a follower of his brother Joey, the greatest TT rider of my time, many times over the years I saw the Dunlop brothers racing at the TT where they had terrific battles, often in the 125 class. The sight of Robert riding the Medd Honda and the Rotary Norton on the mountain course are etched in my memory forever......another great rider 'taken'.
appreciate the thread.

Very sad indeed, a great loss. He'll be missed.

Very sad indeed to hear the news. A tragedy like this must have worried the family for a long time.

There was a report on this on the national BBC TV news at lunchtime today: it was a fitting tribute to RD from various riders: assuming that the world does not throw up something that takes a higher priority, I would expect it to be repeated in the evening news coverage for today.

I've been lucky enough to see Robert race on a few occasions at Oliver's Mount in Scarborough. The man was an absolute legend.

Condolences to the Dunlop family.

I was fortunate enough to be living and working in Northern Ireland at the time when Joey died. The Province, to the last person were all in mourning. I am sure that the people of N.I. will all be feeling the lose of the latest brother very dearly. It will be a sad North-West 200.
A great lose to sport and the local community.

The worry unfortunately will continue for the Dunlop family as Robert has 2 sons that also race along with a nephew, son of Jim Dunlop, Joey also had a son racing but I have not heard about him recently. anyone that has access to BBC Northern Ireland (can be picked up via 'SKY') there is a programme about Robert at Midnight tonight (May 16th) UK time.

But the spirit lives on.

Dunlop's son races to NW 200 win.

An emotional Michael Dunlop claimed victory in the 250 race in Saturday's North West 200, just two days after the death of his father Robert.

"I had to do it for him - I hope he is proud of me," said Michael, who secured his first North West success.
