Porn mags?

I have read "Ride" magazine or some time and used to look forward to each month. Now I am getting bored of all the BMW stuff that seems to populate the pages especially the GS. Ive tried a few other mags too but they were full of the same. £3.99 for a BMW marketing booklet, no more. Any suggestions for a good bike mag the covers a bit of everything ( except GS!)

If not.............. it will have to be from the top shelf :blushing:

ARB magazine does it for me, good and dirty!

but then, I'm a cage driver!

Motor Cycle Monthly is worth reading and it is published for free but it still manages to write some good articles while living on the income from advertisements.

I've given up on magazines now, I used to get Adventure Bike Rider, but it's doing the same thing, becoming an advert for all things big and shiny.

It does mean I've rediscovered books.

Motorcycle Sport and Leisure covers a fairly broad range of motorcycles and usually has a travel article or two in it, give it a go.

As a means of communication paper is as dead as drawing on the cave walls. Why read one blokes view knowing that the one bloke works for a publication where most of the revenue comes from bike maker advertising and he only had the bike for a day when you can go online and read hundreds of reviews from real owners in real use.

Four quid a month adds up in 12-24 months to enough cash to either upgrade your phone or buy some other device that'll let you read online pretty much anywhere.

I hear pornography is free online too.

Motorcycle Sport and Leisure .

I believe they are more or less all the same, and quite a few are owned by the same publishing house; indeed, the staff "writers" tend to jump ship and move around, producing the same output. over and over.

Kevin Ash (RIP) used to get as near as anyone to telling a few truths.

Perhaps ABR will go the same way as the earlier "Motorcycle Voyager"??

I used to buy loads of bike mags in the past and still have a few boxes full of them in the loft somewhere but my mag buying declined pretty much in parallel with the rise of the internet and sites like this.

Ten or twenty years ago mags were just about the only source of information about whether particular bikes were good / bad / indifferent , which suppliers sold what etc. Now Google or a question on a forum has taken over that function.

The mags are obviously doing what they can to keep their sales up but I have a feeling it's more managed decline than anything, particularly as the numbers of starry eyed new entrants to the (UK) bike scene - people perhaps more likely to buy mags than jaded old cynics like me - is also in severe decline. Moto porn (defined as anything I want but can't afford :() is just one way they try to get me to lever open the dusty recesses of my wallet and buy the mag with my heart rather than my head.

MCM, can't believe I have never come across it, never heard of it. I look in to that. Thanks :thumbup1:

Hi Guys n Gals,

I used to get loads of mags every month but now I only get two;

Trail Bike & Enduro Magazine (TBM),

&

Classic Motorcycle Mechanics.

All the other I've got bored with.

Regards

Reggie

Wildman 23 Mar 2013 18:46

I stopped buying TBM after their trashing of Charlie Boorman (no massive fan but he didn't deserve that). ABR is good although their reluctance to be negative in tests on poor products early on lost then some credibility; I subscribe.

After that, between the ABR, ADV and HUBB websites, who needs mags?

brclarke 23 Mar 2013 19:29

I've never seen that MCM Britain's biggest FREE bike newspaper. Motor Cycle Monthly Magazine

I took a quick look just now; seems a lot better than many print mags....

I flip through a motorcycle magazine occasionally but I find most are now a waste of money. I really don't want to pay for something that is half advertising when I can find pretty much the same info for free with my web browser.
