Official HU jacket patch

Hi All,

I'm posting this request for assistance with the full endorsement of Grant Johnson (HU co-founder).

We're looking into the feasibility and cost effectiveness of producing a fabric patch (in the same design and size as the currently available large [4"] stickers) that can be attached to a jacket, or other fabric article.

This is not definitely happening yet, as we need to be sure that there is interest and that the price is right. However, if you have contacts in the business of manufacturing these types of patches can you please PM me with the contact details (e-mail or website is best), along with your details, especially if this may help us get a discount.

Also, without starting a long discussion on the relative merits, can you please let us know if this is something you may be interested in, as this will help us judge order quantities.

Any questions please let me know. The response may not be quick, but I'll do my best.

Thanks,
Rich

Hi riti

count me in for 4 patches...when there in:clap:

Serge

Mattrex 3 Feb 2009 08:06

I would certainly be interested in some. :thumbup1:

palace15 3 Feb 2009 10:00

After all the Hubb v ADVrider posts perhaps H.F.F.H. may be a better patch!

indu 3 Feb 2009 15:40

I'm in for 6 pcs.

Rick 58 3 Feb 2009 21:04

4"

Yes for the HU patch, but i think 4" dia, is a little bit on the large size.
Maybe 3"dia would be more suitable especialy if you intend sewing onto your jacket.
just my opinion.?c?

Hi Rick,
Valid point, and I'll run this past Grant. The advantage I guess of a larger patch is that you'll stand out more in a crowd, but as we're only at the quote stage we still have scope to make amendments.
Thanks,
Rich

steveindenmark 4 Feb 2009 18:01

I would be interested.

Steve

kevinhancock750 4 Feb 2009 18:02

good idea

i would be up for a few also. someone mentioned on how we'll know each other on the dragon rally! think this would sort it out any where in the world!

riti 5 Feb 2009 11:00

Thanks for all the feedback guys.
Its good to see that we've got interest for these patches.
We're getting more competative quotes in, so it shouldn't be long before we're able to get the first samples through.

ozhanu 5 Feb 2009 13:24

brilliant idea. would be good on jacket. count me in as well.

thanks

JimOD 5 Feb 2009 23:04

I'll be up for a couple of patches. I also feel 4" might be too big on a jacket. My bike club has patches for their jackets, they're 3.25" and big enough without being too big.

riti 6 Feb 2009 14:21

I'm taking on board the comments about the size of the patch, and I'll discuss this with Grant. [I can't imagine going from a 4" patch to a 3" patch will make a massive difference to cost - although maybe to the clarity, as the patches are stitched designs].
Thanks for the comments,
Rich

motoreiter 6 Feb 2009 14:38

Like this site quite a bit, and wouldn't mind getting a patch, but frankly the current design is way too cutesy for my taste. I wanted to see if any thought had been given to creating a simpler, more subdued, less-cartoonish design?

riti 6 Feb 2009 14:42

Thanks for your feedback.

Personally I've not been involved in the logo design, so I would have to speak with Grant about any changes to that.

I would say that the logo is now in very widespread use, and is therefore now very recognisable [at least within our immediate 'family' circle], and for this reason I think it is unlikely that another design will be chosen; but it doesn't hurt to ask.

baswacky 6 Feb 2009 15:38

I must admit that I agree with motoreiter.

Enquiring about becoming a member, I recently asked Grant if it was possible to get a HUBB tee-shirt without the logo. (I have yet to reply to his reply - oops). But it would seem to be a possibility because personally, I find the logo a bit naff.

Time for a redesign? or is it just motoreiter and I who aren't overly fond of our logo.

baswacky.

motoreiter 6 Feb 2009 18:15

Well, yes, I don't really see why HU should only have one design...that other site has several differerent designs, some of which I think are pretty cool, others, not so much. Don't make me come up with my own suggestions, because it won't be pretty!

riti 6 Feb 2009 18:25

:smile3:
likewise I would never design a logo!

Probably the best thing is to PM Grant or Susan and see what their thoughts are [or maybe start a new thread]. For me I'm not an administrator, just a general bod that got into a conversation with Grant about the patches [and roped myself into sorting it out], and have no say at all over the images or logos, so I can't say what will happen. Can see where you're coming from with having more logos, but unfortunately its not my decision.

[Grant, are you listening?] :tongue_smilie:

tommysmithfromleeds 6 Feb 2009 19:03

friday night designs

i think the current logo is ace, and do not wish to dis credit Grant's current design, but i couldnt resist 5 mins on photoshop

The view is from behind the biker. Very crude sketch but might look cool on an arm or sleeve. Just an idea, but would be happy to 'clean up' if there is an interest.

just out of interest - where else would you wear your sleeve? :eek3:

tommysmithfromleeds 6 Feb 2009 20:26

ok that came out wrong lol as did the size of the pic.

riti 6 Feb 2009 20:44

thought for a moment we were talking about that essential accessory for the 'well hung' biker

*Touring Ted* 9 Feb 2009 18:25

The current logo is great for the website and even the stickers but I really dont think it would work on clothing, especially as a patch !

No offence intended but the logo could do with some modernisation (for the patch at least).. Then I'd be proud to show my support with it on my jacket ! :thumbup1:

Hey.. Does someone else smell a "DESIGN THE HU PATCH" competition ;) ???????????????

riti 9 Feb 2009 19:11

I'm getting that there is a feeling for some that the current logo maybe isn't ideal for the patch :eek3:

All I can do as it stands is work with the current design, so I guess you're right that maybe another thread needs starting for another design for this.

All I would say here is that work has been put into the logo prior to any involvement that I have had, and maybe the powers that be should be consulted [does anyone have a direct line or a crystal ball?] before this part of the conversation goes too far and people are disappointed if it doesn't happen.

Please remember that the whole point of the patch is that people can recognise you when you're not on the bike as being involved with HU, and if the logo isn't familiar that won't work.

But if the patch is so fugly that no one wears it, it won't work either. Just sayin...

I understand where you're coming from, but just complaining about the design isn't constructive.

I saw a need for a patch, so I'm doing something about it. If you feel so strongly then don't wait for someone else to do this for you. You'll be waiting a long time.

That's OK, rant away. I actually don't feel any need whatsoever for an HU or any other patch, so have no intention of doing anything about it. I felt compelled, however, to point out that some people find the current design unattractive...now that I've made that point I won't intrude further into your patch thread.

Grant Johnson 10 Feb 2009 14:41

This is the new updated logo, which we'll be implementing as and when we have time.

As for "other" designs, we are definitely open to any submissions - we are NOT graphic artists and we have no budget. If enough people like a submission, we'll be happy to use it!:D

So for those who do NOT like the old one - does the new one above do the job for you, OR do you not like the whole concept?

The basic design is now 11 years old, and IS HU, so we're unlikely to toss the concept. :) Doesn't mean we can't do something else as well.

Logo contest?

A slogan contest will be posted SOON, so start thinking of a new HU slogan too!

Grant

Available?

Are any patches of any design at all available? Will they be on sale at Ripley? I have some fag burns in my jeans. A patch like that would cover it nicely when not in riding gear! Oh and I will put one on my jacket if available...
Thanks in advance
GM

When a design is decided, I've used Franklin's to have badges made up before and they're incredibly helpful and nice people to work with. No connection just a very happy customer.
