Chris was meant to be staying here on the Wirral with me and Greenmanalishi before his flight on the 10th July.

He's mailed us to say he won't be able to ride but maybe still going to Russia as it's all planned.

Get well soon Chris. It's good to get the bad luck out of the way before a trip !

mustaphapint 2 Jul 2011 21:34

Sorry to hear this Chris. Hope you're still able to make your Russia trip

chris 3 Jul 2011 19:05

hi guys
many thanks for the kind words. eventually had op last night, but due to complications need another, on tuesday. russia trip is off. was flying to estonia next sunday. bollocks. very big bollocks, but i now get the chance to spend more time with my lovely wife.

won't be riding a bike for a couple of months. at this minute can't drive a car either. by the fact that everything is lowercase, i'm doing everything on the pc onehanded.

anyone doing a 4x4 trip anywhere who needs a navigator? i already have an unused russia and mongolia visa.

cheers
c

ps. if you want to know what happened: sidecar outfit with left side chair, left hand corner, too fast, lifted chair with son in it, didn't want to flip rig, so straightened up leading to fingers of right hand in dry stone wall/brake lever sandwich. son walked away without a scratch. i have no other injuries either. front end of bike is fuct.

Thats a bummer!
It means I miss out on the promised free drinks when he reached Moscow.

I suppose, with time, I'll get over it.

Maybe an ale from Susie and me when we are there could stem the depression TP ?

2nd to 10th August we shall be "in residence" at The Savoy...

dear tony
i'm very sorry to hear about your depression and my part in it (could be the title of a new posthumous spike milligan book? :rolleyes2: ). i'd like to postpone the trip for 12 months. everything is sorted already. would just have to get new visas and hope that nick in tallinn is cool to leave the bike there for a year....

...or in summer 2012 freight my drz 400 straight to ub and do some "extreme" mongolia to magadan stuff: walter, do you need a sidekick? :innocent:

in the interim, how about meeting up in blighty for a few sherberts?

cheers

FWIW, decided (upon medical advice and that my fingers/wrist feel wierd) it was too soon to be riding a bike for the distances I had planned. So flew to Tallinn on Monday, fixed dicky fuel tap (now bike runs, which is useful... it didn't before... then left bike parked there), took a bus to St Petersburg yesterday and now doing the backpacker/tourist thing here. Taking train to Moscow on Saturday, then home par avion next Tuesday.

Looking forward to decorating the lounge when I get home.?c?

What I've learnt so far in St Petersburg is:

  • traffic cops pull over poor looking people in older Russian cars
  • flash cars with blacked out windows are driven by tossers at stupid speeds and the cops don't bat an eye
  • 20 to 30 year old Russian women look great in mini skirts or demin
  • Russian bus drivers drive as badly as their chums on the Indian subcontinent
  • The Russian for yes/no/thank you/vodka/beer
  • if you ride a HD chopper with straight through pipes and ape hanger bars you don't need to wear a crash helmet and are allowed to ignore speed limits (probably similar people to the flash car drivers mentioned above). All other bikers seem to ride normally and wear a helmet
  • it rains a lot in St Petersburg
  • I hate taking buses/trains. Riding bikes is much more fun
  • Physiotherapy on fingers recovering after they have been broken, hurts like hell :funmeterno:, but "no pain, no gain"
Should be riding in tiime for Autumn/Winter. Great doh

Likely to be at the Mendip HU meet, so hope to catch up with people there.

cheers
Chris
