Last Great Adventure - What's yours?

With the Bering Straits being crossed by Land Rover

and Clarkson and May driving to the Pole

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_pwd_b2HOirk/Rx...LSNsww/063.jpg

that's two more of my Great Adventures crossed off the list.

Which leaves me with - recreating Half Safe's round the world drive/swim, Pole to Pole by microlight, something I haven't thought of yet and boating the Nantes-Brest canal (doable apart from all the sealed locks).

So looking for further inspiration to fill my rainy evenings I thought I'd ask, what's on your list?

There Is No Fun In A Numb Bum

I will be 76 next year and plan riding across China - though plan is a misnomer. Intend is better. Planning takes up time and time, for Oldies, is precious. Why waste it preparing for something when I may have snuffed it before the doing gets under way?
Experience in circumnavigated the Americas (45,000 Ks) over the past two years has taught me the following:
Ride a bike that you can lift after a fall.
Ride a bike for which spares are readily available on your route.
Carry a minimum of luggage.
Acquire a custom saddle.
A great saddle would have added immensely to the pleasure of my recent journey. There is no fun in a numb bum. When, on occasion, I met with Harley Riders and Gold Wing riders. I would stroke enviously their leather armchairs.
Have fun,
:oops2: home

Here's my 'immediate' list (i.e. next ten years, no idea after that!):

Canoe one of North Americas Great Rivers.

North-South ski traverse of the Hardangervidda in Norway.

Ski tour on Svalbard, including an ascent of a suitable peak.

Ride a motorcycle around the 'stans.

OK, a bit less ambitious than some, but all great adventures in my eyes. I think it's important to always be thinking ahead. Planning trips that will put you at the edge of your personal comfort zone. That way, with the knowledge that you'll be attempting them soon, it gives you an incentive to improve your knowledge and skills. And it's often the learning curve that is the most fun!

Oh dear, that's this afternoon gone as far as doing any constructive work related stuff is concerned!

Matt :)

Just starting but .....

Well we are jsut starting out o our great adventures, next week in fact. This is a cycle from John O'groats to Land's End.

This is followed next year by Land'sEnd -> Sydney by 4wd.

After that the dreaming starts, but I think we want to look at continuing on by sail boat (circumnavigation starting in Caribeaan) , and then maybe a longer cycle, perhaps South America or Africa.

My last dream, will be what is many people's reality on here, to finish the RTW on a motorbike. The hard work is convincing the wife :)

oh and also got to work out how to pay for it all!

I'd like to walk the Appalachian Trail. Home - Appalachian Trail Conservancy

I've also always wanted to raft down the Mississippi River. I read a new story about that on NPR (USA's National Public Radio). The guy reporting it hated it and bailed out which somehow makes me want to do it even more.
