I wish I was a journalist

Have you ever noticed that journalists get special access to trade shows? They get to swan round earlier and have a good look before us plebs get in, if we get in at all.

I just got sent an invite to a bike trade show in France (how?), but I'm not a journalist, so I can't get accreditation. Well unless someone wants to send me as their roving reporter. I promise I'd write it all up.

try to just blag it as a freelancer?

i used to years ago for arcade machine shows. 3 days playing all the newest games for free cost about £10 for a ticket if i remember right. was about 12-13 years ago now but i just wrote in with a fake company name & back came the passes.

Getting In!

We have a huge convention center called La Rual in Buenos Aires. At the Book Fair, last year, I found myself on the outside waiting while others, probably the authors, publishers and press glided passed and were admitted early.

I did not have time to wait around for the public opening, and wanted to do some promoting myself, so I waited until a group of "VIPs" were exiting, and as they exited I WALKED BACKWARDS through the group and through the entrance.

A Security Guard could not help but see me, but was laughing so hard that she couldn't get to me before I turned around and ran behind the nearest display, grabbed a book and buried my nose in it.

Not sure if this might help you Aleslebrit, maybe you could just fancy up your bike and enter through the exhibitor's entrance?

You just need to be a tech...

Dress in black, have at least a torch, multitool and phone on your belt, carry a cable and a roll of gaffer tape, and look rushed.

High-profile VIP-style events have started issuing crew T-shirts on the day of the gig in a random bright colour so people can't sneak in like that. Some of them even refuse to reveal the location to anyone not high-up in production until the last minute, which makes booking transport a highly entertaining task!!

Laura I can do all that but it's a bit over the top just to sneak into a professionals' bike show don't you think?

Maybe I should just thell them "I'm from the HUBB"
