Earthquake in Chile Destroys National Park

Hi guys and girls,

Just thought I would show you all an interesting piece of news.

The recent earthquake here in Chile has ruined the Siete Tazas National Park. The quake split the rock and drained the river, so there are no more waterfalls.

I have put the 'before and after' photos on my blog as well as a bit more info.

Earthquake in Chile

Hope everyone is well. Anyone still planning on coming down this way let us know and we'll meet up in Santiago before you head south, or over the border.

Cheers,

Brian

I LOVE Chile. It's easily my favourite SA country - everywhere south of Santiago is stunning, the people are great (particularly the honeys), and the seafood is world beating.

However. Nature is nature, tectonics are tectonics, and rearrangement of continents has been happening for ever, and will continue. New amazing stuff will appear. We may or may not be here to see it - as always.

I appreciate your horror at the destruction of beautiful stuff - but that's how the Earth works. Always has, always will. New beautiful stuff is coming. That's how the old beautiful stuff got there in the first place.

Good luck to the people of Chile - I ****in' love it and I will be back.

What a pity!

We camped ther in 2006 and was one ot the highlights of the trip, simply for being very peaceful (we were the only people there!!), as well as very beautiful, with the Rio Claro (IIRR) rushing by.

But as Sime66 pointed out, this is nature at work and I can accept it far more easily than something being ruined deliberately in the name of making money as can happen in the world.....

That does not make it easier on the Chilean people and we both hope they are back to life as normal as soon as possible.

Life is still on the move in Chile, they are still having numerous earth quakes south and north of Santiago and it’s not local to just one area and is over a huge area (there was a 6.5 yesterday). They also fear other lakes are disappearing...

Winter is coming and I hope the people in the south will get support from Chile’s newly changed government.

(((I will be moving to Chile later this year and taking my 640 with me)))
