Departure Date Looming

I've sold my house so my departure is only a matter of weeks away. Got a great little bike (actually quite big for its engine size) a Honda Varadero 125 VT and am sorting my luggage....looks like it'll mostly fit in the Givi top box & panniers...really looking forward to the off. I have a couple of negatives 1) due to my age (66 nxt b'day) I'm struggling to get travel insurance. 2) Due to Al Qaida activity I'm only going as far as Turkey and then back through Europe to Morocco. Never mind it'll still be fun and I'll take my time & enjoy it. Expect to be away about a year. Yipeee!

Nice one John!
I like that plan although I can't see how it will take up to a year, but I am sure you can stretch it out if that is what you want.

It's an interesting choice of bike; the little vara has been withdrawn from sale in the UK now I understand - it will be interesting to hear how it performs for you, maybe within the Honda tech thread??

Also, the issue of health insurance is a pain but I guess you will travel without it while you are within "mainland" Europe?

Strange comment - a person could spend years "seeing" Europe.

Have a great trip John!

Agreed, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking you have to go RTW. Many of us probably haven't seen everything on our doorsteps or close by - safe travels

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
