Now that Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman are no longer active, here is a new hate object ;-)

doesn't sound much like the 'heart of the Amazon Rain Forest' if they're going to be having an international footy match there!!

I wonder how big security and support team he has :eek3:
That link was hilarious, Mr Beckham posing next to a muddy Triumph...

Positive motorcycling in the media

No matter what we may think, documentaries such as these get motorcycling into the main stream, my wife came home from work and said everyone had watched it and was talking about it.

Now if that gets more bums on saddles then it can only be a good thing for motorcycling as a whole:scooter:

I watched the show and enjoyed it, as a biker I enjoyed the biking but I came away thinking 'the bloke done good', he wanted to get away from it all and have a blast with some mates and I think he achieved that and more:scooter:

It may just get people searching out other riding documentaries and enlighten them to the delights of Austin Vince and Nick Sanders:scooter:

Along with the 25 "crew!.
The programme was about promoting the Beckham brand and the new range of motorcycle clothing the "he designed", being put out by Belstaff: see here -Iconic Legends | Classic Wax Cotton & Leather Jackets | Belstaff

Hmm That's a tough one.. What could David do to top Ewan & Charley.. ? I wonder if KTM turned him down for a free bike as well?

"David Beckham into the Unknown' follows the football legend as he explores Rio de Janeiro ahead of the World Cup, before travelling to Manaus, in the heart of the rainforest, where England is set to play Italy next month"

HAHHAHAHA Rio is hardly the 'unknown'

You know. come to think of it.. It doesn't say he will actually be riding any sort of motorcycle anywhere..

I'm obviously missing something here.

If I was too fat to do the zip up on my jacket, so just had it done up with the belt with my belly sticking through the gap like some washed up tramp people would laugh, so why in all the pics are they doing that (not much belly though admittedly)?

and ****me! have you seen the prices, £415 for a jumper!!!!!!!!!WTF!! £1465 for a pair of trousers!!!!!!!WTF!!!!!

Tsk, tsk, it's sounding like sour grapes over here! He doesn't have a beer belly and he's on a bike. That's not so bad!
What if the he was a she? Perhaps Maria Sharapova or another top female athlete? :innocent:

moggy 1968 4 Aug 2014 01:40

then it would still be a feeble media publicity stunt by some over privileged celeb!!

BTW, I was at the Beaulieu motor museum today, which now has a dedicated motorcycle section.

On a wall are profiles of the top 20 motorcyclists as voted for by the public.

there is of course, Joey Dunlop, McGuiness, Barry Sheen, Ted Simon, and errr, Charlie Booring and his famous mate!!

I mean, I did enjoy long way round (although long way down was a crap whinge fest) and fair play to them for making a few bob out of it and to booring for resurrecting his failed career by having a famous mate, but in the top 20, C'MON!!!!doh

And he was wearing just a T-shirt and no gloves for most of the show (granted, I only watched the parts with motorcycles and fast-forwarded though the rest).
I was amazed that his publicists or whoever didn't have problems with the lack of protective gear (i.e. circa 1970s helmets).

stuxtttr 9 Aug 2014 01:14

Did it show/promote motorcycling in a positive way and in the main stream media? I think it did

I have upmost respect for any racer whatever the discipline but the IOM TT always results in the fatalities being broadcast over mass media this and the general stupidity broadcast over you tube paints motorcycling as a brainless and dangerous past time to the general public. Negative media changes general opinions of our much loved past time.

Descisions are made and laws are passed and all the time our past time gets put in the firing line.

David Beckham maybe privaledged but I'm not. No matter how hard the everyday biker tries to promote biking in a positive way we can never hope to reach mass audiences, so well done to the celebraties that do.

If it changes just a few small minded people high up then it could pay dividends later on.

As for advertising his range of jackets? I don't think judging by the prices that the clothing range is aimed at mere mortals so he would probably better hosting a celeb bash if that was his goal as his celeb chums could actually afford and want his endorsed gear!

No matter who the true heros of biking are, you will never generate any interest in the likes of Nick Sanders or Austin Vince and all the other great adventurers to non bikers without first wetting their appitities with the likes of Ewan, Charlie and now Beckham.

The future for Roads in the majority is safety, motorcycling just doesnt fit into any of the future plans, are motorcycles really going to be allowed to tear about amoungst highways full of driverless vehicles?

Whatever hope motorcycling has can only be helped with more understanding and if that comes from ventures such as Beckhams well I couldnt give a monkeys. Because everyday extra I get to jump on my bike is a bonus:scooter: What we ride today will most likely be banned from use on the road within the next 30 years at most probably far sooner.

Who knows in 2042 we might still be able to have meets and ride our heavily resticted e bikes around a safety controlled closed circuit! The future probably aint bright so enjoy every ride.
