Charity Motorcycle Ride-Out for the National Autistic Society (NAS) – Call for Riders

“A Great British Bike Doing A Lap Of Great Britain For Great British Charity”

"Some of you may have read in Motorcycle News (MCN) dated 20th Feb 2013 (page 5), a column calling for riders to join a charity ride around the coast of the UK. On behalf of Paul Newman I am calling on my fellow HU members to join this ride if you can." Many thanks Conan Easson.

Paul Newman is inviting motorcyclists to join his 4000 mile ride around the British coastline to raise awareness and funs for the National Autistic Society (NAS).

Paul will start from Kings Lynn, Norfolk on August 31st, averaging around 300 miles per day on mainly B-roads, finishing in the central arena at the British Motorcycle Federation’s (BMF) Tailend event on the 14th –15th September.

Due to local authorities and marshalling issues, ride outs are officially limited to three;
Cambridge – Kings Lynn, Kings Lynn – Peterborough and one that is as yet to be decided.

Autism is one of three known disorders in the Autism spectrum under neurodevelopment disorders. People with this condition can struggle with social interaction, having difficulties with speech, language, eye contact and tend to lack the intuition that many people take for granted. It is highly variable in its diagnosis, signs tending to appear during infancy or early childhood and is distinguished by a list of symptoms from restricted interests to repetitive behaviour.

Paul has an eight-year-old son called Reece who has this condition, being diagnosed at the age of three. Paul moved Reece from mainstream school to Granta, a school for children with special educational needs, and has seen a vast improvement in his son.

As a way of thanking those that have helped Reece and to raise awareness of Autism Paul has decided to create this ride and would like as many fellow bikers to get involved as possible.

“I hope as many bikers will get involved as possible, whether for the whole journey or even just for 10 miles.”

Most recently Paul has managed to secured sponsorship from Triumph, being loaned a Sprint GT for the ride.

Newman said: “I hope this challenge will help raise awareness of autism as well as the support and services offered to parents by the NAS.”

If you would like to support Paul by donating or joining him on this journey, please contact him at paul.newman292@gmail.com or visit and click LIKE on his facebook site @ Ride for Autism UK

Maps for the route can be found on the facebook site with a downloadable map for your satnav available closer to the start date.

Update

Hi Folks,

Quick update:

Everything is going really well, Paul now has 5 persons joining him on his trip around the UK coastal route, the target is 20, so please spread the word.

Paul has also picked up more sponsorship from the Iron horse ranch house biker pub near Peterborough, see website: Iron Horse Ranch House, good grub and happy folk to natter to, watch this space as there plans are to be the Ace Cafe of the East.

The only current issue is finding enough fuel at the top of Scotland, if the HUBB community would like to advise on this we would be grateful, apart from this to iron out everything's going to plan.

Scottish petrol stations and traffic reports

Hi,

You should visit the Scotland Traffic website for relevant information when travelling in Scotland Traffic Scotland > Home

They have up to date weather reports, online radio traffic congestion reports, live road cameras (cameras refresh rate slow though) etc.

Also there is a website that may assist you with finding petrol during your travel:

Petrol Prices - Search for Petrol Stations in Your Area | Whatgas.com

Fuel prices sometimes delayed however fairly accurate.

Have a great ride.

Cheers Stew
