Camp in my garden

Making camping eventful - Campinmygarden.com

Just saw this mentioned on bbc world service.

What a brilliant idea. Just found a cheap place to stay on one of my trips later this year :)

Brave, though. Not sure I'd like a load of scruffies loitering about my gaff, but I guess it takes all sorts :)

Senno 14 Jul 2012 23:24

^^Though having said that not all are that cheap; in fact some are downright pricey compared to normal campsites

Alexlebrit 15 Jul 2012 16:52

I've not heard of thus lot, but have couch-surfed before and camped in people's gardens through them and usually it costs no more than an offering, a bottle of wine works well.
Thus looks interesting too though.

I think it is an interesting idea and I'm all for 'collaborative consumption' and, as I said, I think I'll be availing myself of the services of one of them later this year.

But a lot of the stated costs are rather high, higher than normal campsites and in some cases, say for a family of four, more than a hotel room

good idea:mchappy:

Some will get nothing because they are asking too much money.

They are aren't they? Some of the prices are amazingly high! I guess they're just chancing it on the off chance someone might have nowhere else to go

John933 23 Jul 2012 09:46

Found a few that is only a £1 a day. Just needs someone to ride with and speaks English. Have asked for there GPS numbers. May looking in to a couple of weeks stay in Spain.

You have to admire their balls.

henryuk 1 Aug 2012 19:35

given that they seem to be targetting the olympic weeks they'll probably have no problems getting people in!

Good pointer on campinmygarden though Fern - I'll be checking it out

Camp at theoldrectorycheam's place - Campinmygarden.com

You have to admire their balls.

To be fair they aren't offering a patch of grass to put your tent up. They are offering a wood construction cafe with electricity and mod cons.

Great idea :thumbup1: but I can't help wondering how long it will be before some jobs-worth decides that planning consent/health safety / Insurance blah blah ......is required.
But if it were to free ? Maybe someone could start a similar website for the likes of us lot. I know you can travel around and find places and be offered places to camp, (done it myself) and be blown away by hospitality for little or no reward. But how great would it be to have a network of biker friendly prearranged camping stop-overs for free! How much trouble can it be??? ( famous last words)

Paulo Assis 2 Aug 2012 07:19

Indeed, gs6.
I can do this. for free.
Well, thinking better, it is not so "for free". When you meet someone, there are a lots of gains, shares and exchanges. You become bigger than you were before.

Great idea. I'd be up for this if it ever came about
