Not 'cause I am off on a a journey (I am in the middle of one..)
but because I am so sick and tired of how his site has degenerated into "mines better that your's crap" including attacks on moderators whom I hold In High esteem (Chris). By people (waterfox) who obviously haven't a clue about simple manners. Through my (ex) location in Ghana I ended up giving trip extending support to people in defenders, XT600s. TLC - I have left there so no biggie. Certain people (Matt Savage) have made me feel more like a friend than a customer... I like to think that Chris S also got some real feedback (flying rings etc). I offered FOC parts, places to stay...

TT Kira -We were almost at a good deal to ship stuff to a C.I. orphan home.... me being a nasty tropical timber guy ;-)

Sorry to hear you're going. Sadly, there's lots of plonkers on the planet and 1 or 2 find their way to the HUBB. There is an "ignore" button that you can press, so you never get to read (what you perceive to be) cr*p by certain individuals. Sadly, I can't use it, cos I have to sensor the (what I perceive to be) sh*t...

I got on line back in 2003.
I thought I had a lot in common with biker's but now the only thing I have in common with most is that we ride bike's :(


The good thing about the internet is...you can filter out on the plonkers and that way you don't have to meet them :thumbup1:

Hi Gil,

Sorry to hear you're thinking of leaving.

I think the HUBB's a great resource. I know that wherever I'm travelling I can rely on the fact that a HUBBer's there, just been there, just going there, or has in depth knowlege of the country or current situation.

The other forums are great for technical know-how which is the other 50% you need for an adventure.

Given the current recession and unstable world, there's a lot of folk who still need encouragement to travel.

The LR/LC debate will always be with us. Who cares, as long as there are people who dare to get off their butts and go and see the world for themselves.

Just my two pennorth from the driver's seat of another troopy. Tough job but you should see the view from my office window!

Yah, seems to me that on this forum, just like all others at least back to the Newsgroup days, there are always people angrily storming off into the sunset, expressing their indignation about how things are heading steeply downhill and nothing is as it used to be....but as often as not these are not the folks who contribute much anyway. At least, the tone they take in their departure posts seems to closely match the tone they took all along.

A closely related phenomenon is short-timers who post a few times, administer stern verbal thrashings to those whose style or interests they disapprove of, then vanish forever. People like this can drive off long-time contributors, but they seldom seem to have much of substance to offer themselves.

Whether either description applies to me, to you, or to anyone else in particular is entirely up in the air.

+1 to that. Every website (or club in the real world for that matter) has it's own style and expected level of behaviour. I fit in here, I took a while to get to know which bits of ADVrider to avoid, I only go on the MZ and sidecar yahoo when I'm in the right frame of mind, I won't go near the GS club etc. It's a pity to loose someone who contributes but to be honest (and IMHO) that's better than page after page of moaning from people who don't fit, or react to the trolls or feel the need to troll themselves.

This is a pity but doesn't spell the end of HUBB. Good luck to the OP too, hope he finds somewhere he likes.

I for one always read your posts which were even handed, level headed, informative and knowledgeable.

I certainly took offence at words such as “lair”. In my book extremely offensive but Chris seems like a big boy and rose above it.

I’m all for a bit of banter/light hearted rivalry but some individuals don’t have the ability to communicate in such a manner. I’ve noticed this type of thing else where and it seems to come and go in waves and I’ve taken “holidays” from certain forums when I’ve not gained any knowledge or more importantly not enjoyed interacting with some prats

This forum is no different to others but it is up to you to take out of it what you want and leave everything else behind.

I belong to forums where there are a few real plonkers but the vast majority of members know who the plonkers are.

If we all leave because of these people there will only be plonkers left.
