Brazil to Bolivia paperwork

Just throwing this out there after all I've heard about the horrors of having an expired Temp Import Permit for bikes in Brazil. Overstay penalties ranging from a fine to seizure and confiscation of the bike.

On entry at Foz d'Iguazu I was given a 5 page document assigning a $15K U.S. valuation for my 2010 DR650. Strike you as a little on the high side? My buddy, who entered through Uraguay wasn't given anything, despite asking the border guy.

On the last day of my permit I'm making a frantic run for Bolivia at Corumba, with my buddy. We get to the border and on exit from Brazil not one question is asked about paperwork for the bike. I kept my papers out of sight.

On the Bolivian side no paperwork was issued for the bikes, and in fact, we had to ask to guy to stamp our passports. The Migracion office was closed so the guy in the Aduana stamped the passports giving us 30 days. When asked about the bikes he replied with a shrug, and a "no problema". So, all's well that ends well.

Seems it's really a matter of which crossing and which border people you get.

Just sayin'

Cheers!
