Blogging apps

Hi guys and girls..... About to head off for a few years and people have asked if I have a blog.

Hmmm...not at the moment, but I'm now thinking why not get some of my ramblings down on a page if only just to vent my frustration at a border or make a note of regular bowl movements.

So, question is what blogging app to use?? I have a mark one iPad with a windup handle on the side that is only capable of IOS 5.1 and a personal brain in the same upgrade mode. At 53 there is little chance of updating my understanding of these witchcraft devices. Hence....a simple app for a simple guy.

I have a iphone4s, but not sure how good/better that might be??

Answers on a postcard to the usual address...failing that a reply on this thread would be super fantastic.

Cheers all...... Kevin.

me too.........

I have pondered the same thing, how best to do it. Having been in the "Techy stuff environment " quite deep at one point in my life, these things don't frighten me at all. But there is one thing I have learnt which many fail to spot with all the gadgets they play with. The whole point is to make it simple, quick, and hassle free.

Why do people insist on fighting with some gadget for hours getting stressed and bothered only to "loose the whole lot"

My advise if you "aint-tech-savy"

PEN & PAPER

( not a note of my affections .........)

So that's two of us pondering now..

Pen and paper I'm ok with...just don't fancy the postage costs to the rest of the Hubb...:D

My blog is on Wordpress. Very easy to update on the road.

Customising the blog to your own preferences takes a bit of time (at home, before you leave) but if you just want something simple, you can use whatever basic Wordpress template you prefer and take it from there.

Throughout last year's trip I updated it using an iPad 2. I just didn't like using the virtual keyboard on the iPad.

This year, I'm using my Macbook Air - so much easier when you have a real keyboard. But an iPad will suffice.

My blog is www.bermudarover.com to give you an idea of what Wordpress offers. Take a look at their site and play around with the various template options to see if it would suit you.

I used Google blogspot for a while - very simple to update. Here's a link to one I did earlier -A winter's tale: Thinking about Elephants past

I'm not sure 53 qualifies you as beyond hope with the wonders of modern tech. I'm ten years older (almost!) and can still just about press the buttons in the right order.

You can forget about writing much on the iPhone. It's ok for a few sentences or a text or something but the screen is just too small for anything lengthy and I keep hitting the wrong keys often enough to put me off using it. An iPad is much better - we've got a "2" and I use it a lot but I'm not sure I'd want to take it on a long bike trip, even in a case. The best of the lot (imho) is the iPad mini in a case. We got our stuff cheap because my son repairs them but I wonder whether a cheap Android tablet (Tesco own brand for example) would work just as well.

It is worth putting the effort in to write up a long trip as you go. Keep paper notes and write an electronic blog from them as you go, posting it whenever you get the chance. We always started journaling every decent trip I've ever done but never kept it up.That's the voice of regret speaking, looking back years later I really wish we had.
