Back from the dead with a hole in the head
Hello everyone!

It's been a while since I last logged in. Had an amazing trip around the world in 2009, and then got busy working and saving for the next big trip through Africa and the Americas, until on August 1st last year I went cycling and got hit by a car at 40mph.

I'll spare you the gory details (it was quite gory!) It's enough to say that I closed a major road for 3 hours and was so badly injured the doctors told my family that I was definitely going to die.

I'm very lucky to be walking and talking, and although I'll probably never be able to run again I will be getting back on two wheels for the first time when I take delivery of an F800GS in two weeks.

Because of my brain injuries I have balance and vision problems (am awaiting operations on my eyes), and memory trouble. Fortunately I don't remember the accident (apart from one very nasty bit that I'd rather forget). I don't remember August or September, and October is slipping away. I'm just hoping I remember how to ride, especially as my first attempt will be when I pull away from the dealer's forecourt!!

The Africa / America trip is on hold until I've recovered properly. Meanwhile I'm planning to spend a few months this summer doing Scandinavia and eastern europe and any other european country I've never been too, maybe getting a bit further afield if things go well.

It's very, very nice to be back!!

Any of the 09 Stan Clan around?

Take care!

Al / Todderz

Hi Al
Good to hear you survived the accident. Let me know when you're going for a bimble on the new bike round the Dales. Tea/chat/tyre kicking in somewhere like Masham or Hawes (or Harrogate, if you're without a bike) might help to rekindle some of your bike/trip memories.

Post here or PM/email any time.

Fast speedy and full recovery
Mate, I have to say that you are incredibly inspiring.

I honestly think that is the best example of resolve I have heard and I wish you the best of luck on the new bike. Like they say you never forget how to ride a bike.

Take it easy on the road we don't want lightening to strike twice. If you pass by Geneva region of Switzerland, drop me a PM I'm always open for a beer or two (as long as the docs don't mind of course ;-)

All the above replies:- This is why I love the HUBB, love bikes, and love bike travel. I must stop by here more often!

Hello, if you fancy a ride 'round the dales, to the seaside or up into the Borders when you get the new bike, p.m me or give me a call.
Pat and Christine have my numbers.

"Cyclist hit by car"

I bet if they knew moto pedigree it would be twisted to "Motor Biker causes crash"!

Glad you are up and about.:thumbup1:
