Annual Travel Insurance - Motorcycle cover?

I'm going to GOA, India for 31 days in March 2014 to get away from the UK winter.

I have searched Moneysupermarket for a good travel insurance policy to cover the trip.

I think a standard annual travel policy would be suffice but it needs to include MOTORCYCLE. Most insurers give 31 days per trip and this is exactly the limit I propose (One month).

Standard annual policies start at about £28 and go upwards (without bike cover).

Under some circumstances it might be possible to give a made up reason for injury but this might not work if you end up being wiped out and unable to move!

Seems pretty daft why bikes are treated in this way. I'm an ex bike cop and have been riding (safely) since 1979.

I intend to hire a motorcycle whilst there and do a bit of touring on it.

All the policies I have found treat motorcycling as a DANGEROUS activity and excludes this cover!

I thought the best place to ask is HERE!

I obviously want good cover.

Any recommendations gladly received.

Thanks
Neil

Travel Insurance Online - Travel Safely with World Nomads may have something suitable. They have different levels of cover depending how badly you want to wipe yourself out.

The ADAC will cover UK residents, they offer full vehicle breakdown and medical cover up to 3 months away from home. That's with their membership plus without the plus it would just be vehicle breakdown recovery. They cover all private vehicles regardless of cc, borrowed hired or owned

Try these; I used them this year after reading on the HUBB that others had good experiences. Their cover is good, and reasonably priced.

It doesn't seem so daft when you spend a bit of time chatting with those whose business it is to hire out motorcycles/scooters in various holiday resorts.
Such conversation is very informative about how idiotic folks can be while on vacation.
(+ the fastest 4 wheel vehicle on the planet is a hire car).

You'll have read about suchlike in the "trip paperwork" forum rather than in the pub.

When I lived in Indonesia for a year, I read that the number one cause of death and/or injury for foreigners was motorcycle or scooter accidents.

Lots of people who think they know how to ride a scooter rent one for a day, and then get in over their head on unknown roads with an unfamiliar vehicle.

I'm not at all surprised that most insurance coverage considers it a dangerous activity for most travellers - they're right!

Try the AA, I've a European travel insurance policy that's OK with motorcycling (large bikes) and I assume their worldwide policies are similar. I notice that on several posts you mention your previous life as a policeman yet you openly discuss the option of making fraudulent insurance claims. Tut, tut!

I'm now an EX copper (23 years). I'm no longer required to take notice of UNFAIR/UNJUST laws and practices designed by the rich to DUMP on the innocent majority.

The media is full of stories where riders have been lured into a policy only to find the insurance company spends more time and effort inventing reasons not to pay out, than concluding the claim! In my book that's THEFT too (certainly a breach of contract).

The REAL reason why policies are increasing in cost is = Invented claims (accidents which never took place at all or were engineered). This has been a widespread problem in the North of England with Asian gangs inventing accidents.

Really? That sounds a tad like a recipe for anarchy - picking and choosing for yourself what laws are applicable to the individual.

The BBC ran a documentary on this matter a short while ago and there wasn't an Asian face in sight on that docu. The basic facts of that case are:-
Sixty guilty in crash-for-cash scams | UK news | theguardian.com
It was a complete racket, for a lot of people living in a small village.

Maybe this scam would work better in Goa, particularly if it were perpetrated by those with "local, Asian faces"??

Nice to see that you still uphold some of the standards you developed in the force though. "Institutionalised Racism" seems to ring a bell, coupled with your south-eastern distrust of anything north of the Dartford crossing.

You have no right to accuse me in the way you have here. You know NOTHING about me or my past. All I mentioned was FACT widely reported in the UK media.

In any case, It wasn't my intent to commit fraud myself, I only pointed out (lightheartedly and tongue in cheek) something which I know often occurs (giving another cause of injury to enable a claim).

Take the time to read this interesting thread on another forum -

Insurance Fraud - In detail - Don't be a victim - MBClub UK - Bringing together Mercedes Enthusiasts

Although some Eastern Europeans are involved in this criminal activity, they have a long way to go before they reach the levels of the Asians and Afghanis. Yep. Afghanis. Although outnumbered by the Asian population, who rule the deliberate and staged accident roost in the rest of the country the Afghanis had West London sewn up. They were without doubt the masters of the game in London.

BBC News - 'Cash for crash' gang jailed for insurance fraud

I could go on.....

Why not accuse the whole UK media too whilst you're at it.....

NOTHING I said here is racist.

You should learn not to get so worked up ONE mere word and be less sensitive to other people's alternative opinion to your own. Our hard won Freedom of Speech and Thought is undermined by this kind of unkind (and undeserved) personal abuse.

Our freedoms areincreasingly disappearing because of politically correct rubbish like this.

That's my last word on this subject. I have no wish to engage you further.

I have procured full bike cover for the Goa trip for £40. My sincere thanks to those who imparted helpful advice above.

I'm thinking it's possible to discuss insurance--even the rights and wrongs of making various sorts of claims--without resorting to personal accusations or attacks. It's probably also possible to avoid casting aspersions on ethnic, racial or geographical groups. Try to prove me correct, ok?

The alternative will likely involve removal of posts, or even whole threads. There might even be stern lectures from on high. Probably, we'd all rather not go there.

Thanks.

Mark

In future perhaps it's better if I avoid the members above like the plague and I would urge them to stay well away from MY threads in the future.
