Annual Travel Insurance - Motorcycle cover?
I'm going to GOA, India for 31 days in March 2014 to get away from the UK winter. :rain::stormy:
I have searched Moneysupermarket for a good travel insurance policy to cover the trip. I think a standard annual travel policy would be suffice but it needs to include MOTORCYCLE. Most insurers give 31 days per trip and this is exactly the limit I propose (One month). Standard annual policies start at about £28 and go upwards (without bike cover). Under some circumstances it might be possible to give a made up reason for injury but this might not work if you end up being wiped out and unable to move! Seems pretty daft why bikes are treated in this way. I'm an ex bike cop and have been riding (safely) since 1979. I intend to hire a motorcycle whilst there and do a bit of touring on it. All the policies I have found treat motorcycling as a DANGEROUS activity and excludes this cover! :eek3: I thought the best place to ask is HERE! I obviously want good cover. Travel Insurance Online - Travel Safely with World Nomads may have something suitable. They have different levels of cover depending how badly you want to wipe yourself out.

The ADAC will cover UK residents, they offer full vehicle breakdown and medical cover up to 3 months away from home. That's with their membership plus without the plus it would just be vehicle breakdown recovery. They cover all private vehicles regardless of cc, borrowed hired or owned

Try these; I used them this year after reading on the HUBB that others had good experiences. Their cover is good, and reasonably priced. |

Such conversation is very informative about how idiotic folks can be while on vacation. (+ the fastest 4 wheel vehicle on the planet is a hire car). Quote:

When I lived in Indonesia for a year, I read that the number one cause of death and/or injury for foreigners was motorcycle or scooter accidents.
Lots of people who think they know how to ride a scooter rent one for a day, and then get in over their head on unknown roads with an unfamiliar vehicle. I'm not at all surprised that most insurance coverage considers it a dangerous activity for most travellers - they're right! |
Try the AA, I've a European travel insurance policy that's OK with motorcycling (large bikes) and I assume their worldwide policies are similar. I notice that on several posts you mention your previous life as a policeman yet you openly discuss the option of making fraudulent insurance claims. Tut, tut!

You have no right to accuse me in the way you have here. You know NOTHING about me or my past. All I mentioned was FACT widely reported in the UK media.
In any case, It wasn't my intent to commit fraud myself, I only pointed out (lightheartedly and tongue in cheek) something which I know often occurs (giving another cause of injury to enable a claim). I'm thinking it's possible to discuss insurance--even the rights and wrongs of making various sorts of claims--without resorting to personal accusations or attacks. It's probably also possible to avoid casting aspersions on ethnic, racial or geographical groups. Try to prove me correct, ok?
The alternative will likely involve removal of posts, or even whole threads. There might even be stern lectures from on high. Probably, we'd all rather not go there. Thanks. Mark |
