Adventure Travel Film Festival

Getting quite excited about the Adventure Travel Film Festival next weekend. Is anyone else heading down to Devon for the event?

I'll be there from Thursday morning bumming around and helping out if I can. Can't wait to see the films on Friday and Saturday.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about watch the promo below and go buy tickets. It's organised by Austin & Lois so it'll be a big laugh if nothing else... so come on - who's already booked?

I had a long think about going, but decided it was probably a tad too expensive for me at present. I'm sure the ticket costs are probably about right for the cost of staging the event. But I wondered if there were possibly cheaper venues or formats for such an event that could have meant cheaper entry. After all, people who are enthusiastic about low-budget adventurous travel are often cheapskates.

Certainly once you factor in some petrol moullah if you're coming from afar, and obligatory food+ money (mostly the money), it's not a cheap weekend.

This post is not meant as an unconstructive criticism of the event or organisers. (incase somebody takes offense)

@palace15 - TT? oh now I'm jealous...!

@Nath - yes I know what you mean - it's certainly not cheap. It's a fair old way down there - in the end I came to the conclusion it's worth a punt because I like to see what other people are making and I love to watch the older films (not paying for food or the workshops though) - but also because I've got a longer run later in the year and this is a good opportunity to fine-tune the bike a bit before that... and the HUBB meet of course!

I'm sure Austin & Lois will take all feedback as it's intended and not take offence at all.

Travelling down

I'll be heading down from London on Wednesday night, staying with friends down Dartmoor way and then heading up first thing on Thursday to Bideford - if anyone else is around a little early let me know and I'll get the kettle on for your arrival!

By kettle I obviously mean .

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
