From here we come to another point -- is rally with "100 guys" really an adventure? Yes it is fun for many and may be challenging and have difficult track, however, it completely lacks most aspect of classic adventure. So for many this kind of rally may sound really ADV while for others it may just seem quite pointless (herd).

Why? You'd like both to be the same? Sorry, I prefer to use both.

BTW, I have no interest in what other people did on their holidays, so ride reports remain unread.

The bar analogy refers more to the decor. Would you go in the quiet pub full of blokes with beards and dance on a table? The disco has an area for dancing. That's how i read it anyway.

They are nice roads and are a change from the motorways. I don't like riding in groups, so would always choose to just grab a map and go. I guess the difference is what you want to do, especially after the ride. I'd take a decent book or chat with some old bloke who had a BSA in 1955 in the B&B/campsite, but I guess some people want to continue the days general theme and talk TT gizmo's and knobblies?

Could be a very good thing for first time riders on mud/gravel.

So KTM should make a 1200cc flat twin?

It's a business decision for sure, but copying doesn't work unless there is direct competition in an area the consumer is looking for. If you are Barclays and Lloyds are taking your business with a 10% interest account, yes, you do one too. If you are Burger King happily selling £5.00 flame grilled road kill and McDonalds sell grill grilled road kill for £3.50 are they really a competitor? If they are filling a restaurant across the street and you are empty they are and you need a £3.49 burger however it's cooked. If they are full and you are 90% full they maybe aren't direct competition, some people are obviously picking the product.

I see no pressure for the HUBB "product" to copy. Given a choice of ASDA/Walmart Corn flakes and Sainsbury's, which do you pick? Sainsbury's versus Kellogs, more people will have an opinion. If we are talking branding, I'd say both ADV rider and HU now have identities.

Well. If that’s all there is then it’s pretty worthless, for me.

The Euro Rallies have about 20-25 attendees whilst there's a limit of 60-ish at UK events, hardly a herd in either case. We split in to groups of about 8-10 max depending on bike & ability.

How many people attended the HU UK Rally last year (I heard over 300?), they generally include an offroad rideout, something I believe is worth doing if you're new to offroading and planning on riding off-tarmac, RTW or otherwise......

The Advrider UK & Euro events are about improving rider skill levels & confidence plus there's always punctures etc that are repaired "in the field" - an invaluable learning experience IMO.

I find it strange that HU seems to struggle to attract new members & get busier, reflected in the thread count and basically the reason for the start of this thread i.e. the popularity of Advrider compared to HU and yet Advriders are slagged off - an interesting recruitment drive. If it's the intention of some (but not all) on HU to deter new membership, they're doing a cracking job, I wish them well in their endeavours, my time here is drawing to a close I fear.

Sorry it doesn't quite cut it.

As much as I enjoy the HUBB and ADVRider...there are differences and I will touch upon one of them here...

Imagine you're on the road and travelling where access to Internet is limited. You've got a a dilemma...which country in Central Asia has a friendlier Russian embassy to acquire a visa and quick? OR Can you pickup a visa on the spot at the Mali/Burkina Faso border and what are the restrictions?
Which website do you post...ADVRider.com or HUBB?

Each website has its strength and weaknesses...if you think one Website does it all...you're fooling yourself.

Grant and Susan have produced the HUBB to help others explore the unknown.
I suggest HUBB members explore ADVRider and vice versa...through exploration comes understanding...

Lets hope the HUBB doesn,t go the same way as it,s users!

I'm registered on five sites; HUBB, ADVrider, UKGSer, F800 Forum and BMW Club of GB. The last is a waste of my time (not knocking it but it just isn't for me). I don't like the feel of the F800 Forum and find it difficult to find what I need. The UKGSer site has too many idiots although useful info can be found. I post more on ADV than HUBB. I like it there. Yes, Jo Momma can be daunting but get to know it and you can be "sucked in" to the banter. If you don't like it, stay out. I really don't see the problem mollydog and alibaba seem to have with it. Their assertions are pretty much unfounded as far as I can see and little go beyond petty mudslinging. HUBB is good but my worry is that ADV has started to take its "traffic". The "Trip Planning" forums have been traditionally weak on ADVrider but there has been a recent and noticeable increase in the volume of posts coming through and the number of new 'inmates' seeking and contributing information. Are they posting on both? I worry that in the long-term, this will lead to a decrease in traffic for HUBB which currently earns its place as the home for long-distance motorcycle travel information. Yes, ADV remains predominantly a US site and yes, there are still weak points on ADV but considering its the lack of advertising and recruitment, it's a site that is doing particularly well in developing as a "home" for adventure motorcyclists.

Since you think quantity matters...what would the following mean?

Out of 136 posts on this thread, you've posted 21 of them....more than any other contributor to this thread...
