Looks like Charley is off on a new adventure using three wheels.

Good for him. Does that mean we can get enough another 10 page thread of 'things people don't like about Boorman and McGregor' on the go?

Well, it was actually an open discussion where people aired different views, as you would expect. Do you feel we should suppress such views?

I'll be interested to see this actually as I have a feeling Charlie will be a lot less of a Charlie when he's not having to play the role of Ewan's blokey fart-lighting mate.

Good luck to him, i say!Although i found "...down" to be much less entertaining than "...round" - and expect "...up" to be even less so - i find Charley as a genuine bloke/biker who portrays our love of all things bikey very well. And as it seems to be his main (only?) source of work - compared to Ewan... - then fine, i'll be watching it

With a smaller crew and a less glitzy method of transport ,this looks like a much more down to earth travel documentary .A really good aspect is to "travel like the locals do " , we'll see what happens ![ With a cameraman called Mongo - remember " Blazing Saddles" ? - should be fun ]
This might turn out to be a bit like a biker's version of Michael Palin's - Around the World in 80 days . I'm looking forward to watching it . ps, Charley's missus isn't doing a very good job of dressing him these days , what a scruffy bugger ! [ ha ha !]

Not again!
My partner and I decided to go to South America back in about 2004. Being two up we decided on the R1150GS. A few months later LWR came out. Good fun, but when we finally got the money together for the 1150, there were the inevitable "Wot, like the LWR, then?" questions
Of course, if you then try and explain that, whilst you bought the bike after LWR, but had the idea before it, you end up looking like a childish git.... So now, only about 6 weeks after getting my Ural outfit that I hope to ride east on, this turns up! Now, I realise this post looks like a dumby being hurled from a pram, but that's because it is... What does a HUBBer have to do to be original around here!? Aaaarrrgghh!

Doh
You've gotta love the production values of this - Charley gives a flowing description of the route through Asia and the camera meticulously follows his old route on a map through Africa.
But hats off to him - he has found something that he loves doing, there is a strong market for it, and so he would be mad not to persue it as much as he wishes. I wish that after my big trips in Africa that I'd had the drive to turn my passion for travel into a money making venture in any shape or form ie writing, photographing, filming, producing, fixing, or whatever, much like our own much loved Chris Scott and others have done. We are mostly architects of our own situations so I say "good on him" |

I have read in last weeks MCN that this trip is to be called 'By Any Means' and that only a very small part of it will be on a bike. Apparently its only the english leg that will be on a bike, a 1973 trumph cafe racer.
The rest will be on whatever transport is appropriate for the country being crossed. There will be camels, elephants, container ships, trains and a little swimming across the Bosphorus. The only transport that will be avoided will be commercial airliners. Should make interesting viewing, but a pity its not all on a bike !

I had a cracking day with loads of other bikers. Charley seems like a nice bloke and wish him all the best on his trip. He is just living the dream
