Where can I get new O rings for Acerbis petrol taps?
 

I am after some new O ring for the petrol taps on an Acerbis tank. Acerbis only sell new taps and standard O rings are not petrol proof, does anybody know where I can get some, preferably but not necassarily in the UK?

Viton O-rings should work.

Pop in to your nearest Aldi, they were selling boxed sets of 420 'rings in 24 different seizes last Thursday for £6.99, metric & imperial sets available.

If you can't get one, PM me the inner & outer diameters and I'll see if I've got what you need.

there are lots of different o-ring materials for different applications, there are no 'standard' types but neoprene is the most common type you get in those general purpose sets.
for petrol you want viton or nitrile, steer clear of neoprene and silicon

All true & correct. Use the wrong compound and it will fail very quickly.

Look for a local industrial Bearing and seal supplier. They should sort you out for a few pennies. If you get stuck, let me know the sizes and I'll pick you some up.

(Best way to identify a used o-ring is to note the ID and OD then measure the cross-section in two directions; this gives a good chance of guessing the size it was before it was squashed)

The ones I have fitted came from a local bearing supplier who told me they were suitable for use with petrol, no they are not! So it is viton or nitrile I am looking for, thanks for that.

Nitrile should be fine, Viton is much better.

Good Mechanical Properties.

Fair to good resistance to acids and alkalis.
Poor resistance to oils petrol.
Poor Resistance to Weathering.

Butyl 150 C Max Temp.
Very good resistance to water, alkalis, many acids.
Poor resistance to oils, petrol, and most solvents.

Nitrile 150 C Max Temp.
Very good resistance to water.
Fair resistance to alkalis, acids.
Excellent resistance to oils and petrol.

Neoprene120 C Max Temp.
Good resistance to water and alkalis, fair resistance to acids.
Good resistance to non-aromatic pertroleum, fatty oils, solvents
(except aromatic, chlorinated or ketone types).
Excellent mechanical Properties

Viton/Fluoroelastomer 230 C Max Temp.
Good Mechanical properties
Excellent resistance to ozone weathering.
Can be used at high temperatures with with many fuels, lubricants, hydraulic fluids, solvents.
