Hi!

The exhaust of my kle500 is done, in 2 pieces and history.

So: a new one is 450 euro :funmeterno:

And I can by a tig welder & exhaust parts (how do you call "non" rusting steel in english?) for lets say 550 euro.

Then I can build my own exhaust en have a nice tigwelder :D

So one question, what were the "don't forget this" things when welding on a bike?

Remove the battery, computer and fuses right?

I have experience with tig/mig/mag welding.

The KLE model has been around for years, maybe you can find a used exhaust system at a breakers (junk yard, salvage yard) or on E-Bay?
I'd bet you could find one cheap.

So the real question is .... "Are you in the riding motorcycles business" ??
or the "Welding business" ?? :innocent: ??

Where I was taught to weld I was told to always totally disconnect the battery (ie. both terminals).

That was a few years ago. I have since also been advised to also completely isolate the ECU unit.

Well, im into both. I like my bike but I also like doing stuff myself.

I'm just looking for different options.

I went down this route many years ago with a car exhaust system. Bought a mig welder instead of a new exhaust calculating that if I could get the repairs to last two years I'd break even.

It took me a day and a half to repair the holes and it was still ok when the car was stolen three years later. I've still got the mig and its been used for the same thing - and many other projects - on a few cars and bikes (bikes are easier!) since. If you've got the skills to use the equipment and you choose your projects carefully it can be a good choice.

Also ideal for messing around making Racks that fit just right and are as strong as you need them to be, just make them prettier than mine!

Non rusting steel is called "Stainless steel" in English...

If you disconnect the battery and unplug the CDI/ECU unityou should have no problems.

I'm all for buying the kit to do your own jobs. If you are willing, they WILL pay for themselves many times over..

You do not weld an exhaust on the Bike! You can mark parts with a pen. Away from Bike Tac it together. Then refit and check. Happy it fits. then take it off again and weld it! HOWEVER: If you have to weld on the Bike. Remove Tank and Battery. REMOVE! Have a Fire Extinisher with in reach. I have seen many Bikes Burn the carby goes up Battery exsplodes ( Fumes). Good on you - get the bit of kit & have fun.......

These welders are just a "shift of funds" and can be resold if needs be!

I'm sure its better to take your route - YOU HAVE TO SPECULATE TO ACCUMULATE

In other words, no PAIN - no GAIN !!!!
