travel jump(er) leads?

I want to take some jump leads on a 10 day outback trip (purely as a precaution) but i don't want the bulk of the over the ones that you can buy over the counter. I plan to just buy 2 smaller cables and use those.

What diameter cable is required to jump start a 650 VStrom?

Now I read that to jump start the BM Boxers the negative clamp, on the bike with a flat battery, should be attached to the frame not the negative battery terminal. Ive always gone straight on to the battery. Am i damaging the battery?

Cheers
Paul

Wunderlich do a bikestart for the bmw r series which is a hard wired socket on the bike with a set of plug in jump leads that are heavy enough duty for the job but not so bulky as full on heavy duty jump lead sets, may do the job for you. The wires on them are about 6mm.

Cheers Jake,
Though 6mm cable is still pretty chunky. At least i only need very short lengths.

If you just take a standard two flex power cord it will do the job - that's what the local Russian used to get my Suzuki 650 started in Siberia last year.

Only consideration is to make sure you screw down the end of the leads on to the battery because the wires do get hot.
