Powder Coating.
Hi, does anyone know if and how I can alter shiny black powder coating to satin finish? I've been told a total sand blast and reapplication of powder coating is necessary. Regards, Lindsay.

No reason you can't paint over powder coat with satin. In order for the paint to stick, you need to wet sand with 320 or 600 and thoroughly clean and dry the part before painting.
Or are you talking about satin powder coat over gloss? It would be the same. Scuff powder coat, make sure to scratch down to metal in unobtrusive spot for a good ground point and reapply new powdercoat. In either case, there is no need to sandblast down to bare metal. The person who suggested this doesn't know what they're talking about. Hope this helps. Cheers, John Downs

Coating.
Thanks for that. I had phoned a coating company and a got that advice/ salesmanship? They also offered that if the coating was less than about two weeks old a heating to 100C would allow a second coat to adhere but that would be thicker of course, not thicker than the friend who got it wrong in the first place though! Many thanks, that'll save a lot of money. Lindsay.
