Losing oil on 07 R 1200 GS
 

Am a bit of a mechanical illiterate.

Have an 07 R 1200 GS. Rode her from Florida to California, have put on 11 000 miles and have had to add about quart four every 4000 miles. Is this an acceptable amount of oil for the bike to consume?

Quite acceptable - , just because it says BMW on the tank, it is still simply a machine that needs oil to keep running. Some use a bit more than others especially when run hard. Yours is well within normal range.If the oil level were to remain absolutely constant would be odd.

wow, nearly a litre for a few thousand. i think that is within the BMW - stated parameters, but it's a lot.
just for comparison, my R11GS has >200 000 km up and has never used any oil - none - between services, which i do at 5000 km intervals.

Others will blame your length of break in or the method used. (this would be BMW trying to deny a warranty claim :rofl: )
