changing emission readings

I'm pondering the idea of buying a bike in Chile then riding it north to Canada. I thought once there, I would sell it on to a friend (or a.n.other) there. The bike would be something like a DR200 or Falcon 400 as I'm restricted with seat height.
I read a similar question & the response was that the Chilean bike would fail the Canadian emissions test so selling it wouldn't be an issue.

Could the emissions reading be changed so that it does comply?
Would changing the exhaust and tuning the carb resolve that?

Would I be able to sell the bike as parts only (ie not road-worthy)?

Not a numptie question at all! Lots of folks want to do this ... unfortunately I don't think it's possible.

If Canada is anything like the USA (sadly, in this regard I believe they mirror many USA EPA policies) ... there is NO WAY you can register that bike in Canada. So sure, you can sell it ... but new owner would not be able to put it legally on the road in Canada.

Does not matter how clean or dirty the emissions or changes made ... it's all down to the VIN number on the frame. It will have a country code and some other codes that alert DMV. (dept. of Motor Vehicles)
Most DMV computers will instantly Red Flag any VIN that is not certified for Canada and does not have proper Canadian VIN number.
I can't even register a "clean" Canadian bike here in the USA. Wrong VIN number. So it's not really about emissions ... it's more about protectionism.

Parts! YES ... no problem selling off parts. (save frame) But just make sure that same Chilean bike is sold in Canada. Most Chilean bikes are not sold in Canada so not sure you'd have any buyers for Falcon parts.

I'm not sure about Canada but in USA one can ride round "as a tourist" for years on a foreign plate. If pulled in US and you show a foreign passport ...
the Chile plate is fine as long as you have insurance. Insurance is required in most places, probably in Canada too?? Not sure.

So maybe you can ride your bike round Canada for a while? But selling it looks to be a NO GO. There may be procedures to get round this ... but from what I've heard it's a total PITA .. expensive nightmare. Don't bother.

Your best bet would be to sell the bike off somewhere in Latin America. Of course buyer would have to pay the BIG import fees ... but so many just ride round with NO paper work, it may be doable. I think the Falcon is sold in Mexico? I'd sell it there ... the buyer can work out getting it registered ... or not.
