bad fuel help!!
hi iv bin given my brothers gs 1100 bmw r reg bike to try and fix ,the story goes that he got sold dodgy fuel from a garage and since then the bike bareley has any power it coughs and splutters when you ride it where should i start ?? please help cheers joe

Where are you ??? Dodgy fuel how ??

Well the first thing you should do is drain the carbs, drain the tank and fill it up with good clean fuel..

You have to be more specific with "dodgy fuel".. was in low octane, watered down or just made from sea water ????????????

im in england , well my brothers done the draining of fuel and cleaning carbs , he said that the fuel was dodgy because it had silocon in it?? he tells me this is what the petrol stations use to clean the massive fuel tanks for petrol stations , im not sure what hes talkin about im just the monkey thats gotta fix it somehow , thanks for the super quick reply . joe

Silicon in fuel is a new one to me...

If carbs and tank are cleaned out and its still running like crap, maybe you have to clean out the injectors (FI???), fuel rail and then change the plugs.

It doesnt make sense that they would use silicon to clean lines unless it was silicon abbrasive.....

You would probably have to clean and inspect everywhere where the fuel would have contact with.

If he filled up in the UK with that, then he should probably be writing to the garaage and his solicitor.

ok thanks i will do that and see what happens , and hes in the process of getting legal matters in motion but hes gotta get proof that it was that garage and stuff like that . thanks for the advice m8 your a real help , i may be bk for some more probably cheers joe

Silicon in fuel was back in March 2007. BBC NEWS | UK | Firms curb supplies in fuel scare

I have read reports that it can cause damage to sensors, especially the oxygen sensor so I would check this first if the bike has one.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
