aprilia pegaso 1996 - servicing details

Hello All,

I'm a new member, returning to road riding after spending the last four years trail riding throughout the UK on my gasgas ec300.
I have bought a 1996 Pegaso in good condition, with some service history, full Givi luggage, Scorpion cans and a touring screen. She is in really good condition and I am hoping to enjoy riding it across to Tipperaryin Ireland in July to stay with my brother in law and will use my knowledge of trails in Cotswolds and Wales to get to Pembrroke. Once in Tipperary, I will be exploring the area around Aherlow and The Galtees. I have ridden there before on a KTM400 EXC and the trails will be OK for the peg.

My difficulty is that I have the original service handbook that came with the bike and a service CD that was obviously bought off the internet. Neither show any details about servicing of the engine.

I am keen to check/change the cambelt and do any valve checks(if they require it?).

Any ideas where I can get this information and is it simple job?

Bozz

I think that you will find that the Pegaso has an automatically tensioned camchain as it has a similar engine to the BMW 650 Funduro. The BMW has a four valve head whereas the Pegaso has a five valve head.

Is it aircooled 600 or watercooled 650?

The 650, as already mentioned, has basically the same engine as the f650 but with a different head.

The 600 pegaso is a totally different, and very rare, animal and does have a cambelt. I think they only made them for a year or so before going up to the 650. I had one for a while but I it was older than yours. The best place for info on that one would be ccmriders.co.uk. as the ccm 604s use a version of the same engine. The bore/stroke and cam specs are slightly different on the ccm but the procedure for changing the belt and adjusting the valves will be the same.

Bozz,if you're taking the Fishguard-Rosslaire ferry over to Ireland, you're welcome to stop the night here(near Cardigan) as i'm only a brief 30 min ride to the ferry terminal.
Jon.
