which luggage?
 

Going away on my drz 400 SM in the summer from UK over to Holland and Belgium camping for just over a week.

Ive already decided to use wolfman luggage but cant decide on either:

E10 enduro panniers with enduro duffel

or

Side racks with the waterproof panniers



I like the idea of the E10 setup which will be cheaper but do you think it will be enough space? will prob need the waterproof covers for them too though cause even though its summer it still rains here in Europe

Keep going back to the side rack setup though which could be better in the long run if i go away again for longer and its already waterproof, plus you got some protection incase of an off



Any one used either or both and got recommendations?

Havent used either, but Ive used Ortlieb waterproof roll tops which are similar to the Wolfman waterproof bags. Ive seen the Wolfman waterproof bags and they looked as good as if not better than the Ortliebs.

Looking at the enduro set up - 18 litres is not very much space, how light do you travel? a mid size daypack is around 30-35 litres.

are you doing fairly sedate trails, hardcore off road or all on asphalt?

pack up all the gear you will need and see how much volume you require, having a little extra room is always handy for carrying a bit more food or bike spares/tools.

What you dont want to do is have huge panniers and fill them with crap.

I could see the enduros being a limiting factor when you start to do longer trips :thumbup1:

The waterproof panniers will be more expensive and you will may need a rack to keep them away from exhaust, but long term they will be a better bet.

Also take a look a Giant Loop - expensive but a very popular set up over here in North America with lighter dirt bikes.

Been looking into it, think i would be able to fit all the caming gear into the duffel bag but would have to travel very light to get the rest into the panniers though.

Think its going to be pretty much all asphalt as my mate is going on a cbr 600


Learnt to travel lighter after having a buell ulysses with the 3 boxes on and took far too much stuff when we went riding in the pyreneese, didnt use half the stuff i took only took it cause the boxes were still empty.



Seen the giantloop stuff to, think id prefer the panniers though

Try looking at the Enduristan luggage - great stuff better quality and fit than Ortlieb and depending on your viewpoint and opinion I would say better than Wolfman - you dont need any kind of racks and its got 3 layers to the body - Dividable interior and expands from 15 litre a side up to 30 litre a side Its Excellent stuff. jake. The wolfman expedition panniers are excellent. Their racks, less so. The racks won't break, but they may break the subframe lugs eventually - trying to stop panniers swinging into the rear wheel by bolting racks to aluminium lugs on the underside of the aluminium subframe will eventually snap those lugs off.

With a proper rack, the wolfmans (wolfmen?) are awesome. I built this:

It may be sold if no one buys the whole bike, but it does need the right hand side panel to be cut (and a narrower exhaust than stock).

Without a rack, the giantloop kit is great. But it's not waterproof.
