Wee strom ABS

Can anyone tell me if a 2004 K4 wee has ABS..?

I'm thinking it came later but I'm not sure.

Also, is a low mileage K4 a good bet, or are the later models significantly better..?

I read somewhere that after a certain year you need a laptop to sync the throttles...!

Really..?

Any thoughts appreciated.

ABS came later - around 2008, I think.

To do a throttle body sync on later models, a diagnostic tool, software and computer are indeed needed.

The tool can be had for about $200, I belive, and comes with the software. The Suzuki tool is much more expensive.

That I did not know, getting out of date I guess. The old models (or at least up to 2006 for a DL1000) you could use a manometer, homemade or available on the interweb for somewhere in the range of $100 or borrow of a fellow stromer in the neighborhood.

You do not need anything special to do a TBS on any model, there has been no major engine change. All you need is a home made Mamometer, if you don't want to buy one.

And thre ABS model came out in 07

I don't think the engine changed much apart from the 2 spark head but the FI system has changed and to do a TBS now requires setting the ISC step and idle speed with a laptop and the SDS tool or OBD aftermarket tool; sync with gauges as before. Adjustment screws have also changed.

Have a look on VSRI or Stromtroopers and Advrider for more details.

travellingstrom - I presume your bike is a K6 or older?

I have an 09ABS at the moment and I have not done a TBS yet, and yes, I sit corrected, it is a tad more difficult than before, sorry for the misinformation, I have had an 06,07 and an 09 models and was a bit confused

Just wished to add I have a K8 DL650 and alls that was needed to synch the carbs was the aformentioned manometer. Well, at least that is what I watched my buddy the mechanic use

I hope he didn't charge you; Stormboy's right, EFi engine, no? IF the ISC step is right and IF the idle speed is right, you don't need the SDS tool as far as I can see; if they're not, your TBs aren't synched properly.
