Vstrom 1000 Clutch Problems in Peru

My clutch actuator (the hydraulic bit down by the chain) has sprung a leak.

Opening it up reveals lots of dirt has got around the rubber skirt and contaminated everything. Hydraulic fluid oozes around the piston when the clutch lever is depressed.

I tried bolting everything up tight but the fluid rapidly drains from the upper reservoir cylinder.

Also, when I pull the clutch pushrod out of its hole motor oil spills out of the hole. I can't remember if that is normal or not.

So I'm stuck in Chiclayo, Peru. I think I'm going to try to have a replacement actuator DHLed here.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Man, I'm soooo screwed.

Anybody know if its possible to rebuild such thing.

Any ideas which shippers might get through Peruvian customs before I collect Social Security?

Thanks.

Suzuki Help

Laser Jock,

I can't help as I haven't seen that problem before (or come across it) but I would recommed the Vstrom user sites to post the same question. The guys on there are a wealth of info and are very helpful, I posted a question about something or another while in Sudan and got some great feedback. Try the rapidforum 11109 site ( V-Strom Forum - powered by Tex Arts )and stromtroopers. Let me know how it goes and if you want more info, feel free to e-mail me direct.

Cheers.

Blown a seal....

Hi Mate. It sounds (by your description) that the seal has gone in the slave cylinder. These things happen over time, and the egress of dirt into the area must have hastened the process. There will be a rebuild kit from Suzuki or some other after-market supplier. It's always possible that you can get some seals that will fit that are for another vehicle, but for that you really need somewhere with a large selection of such parts so you can go through and try to find replacements.
A rebuild kit will have a complete set of new parts including the important external dust cover (which is what has let all the crap through) but replacing the main piston seal should get you back on the road.
