TS 185 - Trying to fix up for road

I just bought an old TS 185. It works but needs some stuff to be done to get it street legal. I'm going to go go to a scrap yard and see if I can get the parts I need just to get it pass the safety inspection. It doesn't have a batter and I have been unable to find out what type it needs. I'm not sure about the year but think it is a 1974. The numbers got rubbed off except a 4 or 1. Seeing that it has a later VIN I think it is a 1974. Will any 12 volt motorcycle battery that I can fit in the holder work? This is just one of many questions I have.

Figuring stuff out...

I was able to check my wiring and it looks like all I need to do is plug in some lights. I've got two other questions I've come up with:
-Is my horn suppost to work without the battery? Lights work and all other electrical but not the horn. It's there... just not sounding. Should it sound without a battery?
-I've only got one light socket for my tail-light. Is that good for my brake light and my rear light or should I have two separate lights?

Thanks for any advice!

Battery

Some TS's from the early time were 6 volts, and the later ones were 12V.
The horn should work with the motor running.
The tail light should have adual filament bulb, probably a 21W/5W 6V if it's and early six volt system. The easiest way is probably to pull out a couple of bulbs already in the bike and see what voltage they are rated at.
There is a lot more expertese at this dedicated TS forum:

Come on by and register. There's a lot of TS nutter there.

Kind regards
