the dr 650 speed

hi, could soneone tell me what speed does a dr650 2007 model sit on comfortable and what is the dr 650 top speed. Also for touring 2 up would people recommend this bike or suggest another bike is better. thanks lance

Top speed is just over 100mph actual. The speedo reads 5mph fast.
I've ridden my '06 at 85-90mph for hours straight.
Comfortable touring speed will depend on many things, not just engine hp - gearing, seat, windshield, choice of helmet, etc.
With stock/tall gearing, I cruise around 80 unless there's a healthy head wind.
With 14th/lower gearing, 70mph or so seems to be a comfy spot.

I would choose a different bike for 2-up touring.
Maybe a Strom...

Top speed about 160 km/h as said.
I would say 100 km/h is comfortable all day cruising speed although the bike is well capable of more (but you're not, trust me!). The OEM seat will make you stop and take a short walk after two hours. Never had a problem with that.
Wind protection is barely existent (except for the speedometer).
The seat is short and narrow, utterly useless to transport your better half unless she really loves you and it's only for a short flip to the beach.

For travelling two up long distance get something else.
If you wanbt to go fast get something else.

If you want an easy mainenance and reliable go anywhere (slowly) bike get a DR! Get two if you have to take a partner along :D

I love them. IMHO the most capable and best value for money 650 DS on the market.

The DR650 will sit comfortably up to 140 kph but is very sweet@ 120 _130 bearing in mind the the speedo is 12/ 15 kph fast @ that speed . The susi is not that comfy 2 up seat size& length also high rear foot pegs regards roco rider

Lance,
You ask about other recommendations: First of all, I have to agree that you have to take into account the pillion - I have tried to minimise that opinion in the past and it really does not work!! All depends on how much you really want to keep the pillion on that seat for ride after ride, if you know what I mean.

A lot of posts in here from Susi enthusiasts are pointing toward the DL650 "Wee-Strom" as the way to go for 2 up riding; don't have one myself but I am interested when the time comes to change. Suggest you read the various threads in here and the blogs, especially for those who are doing big distances with a pillion in place.

Cheers,

Dave

While the 650 will handle 2-up riding, the big 1000 Strom would be my suggestion for many miles in the saddle.

Corbin Seat

Buy the Corbin seat from Bob at TPI motorcycles and your butt will love it.
I've got the IMS tank good for 300+ km and can stay on the hole tankful.
