suzuki DRZ 400 e MPG?

What MPG (UK) is average for the DRZ 400? I read somewhere that it was about 48, but this seems a bit low? Thanks.

I'm afraid that mine averages only 37.9mpg.

Doesn't really seem to make much difference if I toddle about or tear-arse around either.

That sounds right for an E ! That big FCR carb is really thirsty.

You will get much better from an S or SM.. I get about 65-80mpg (If I remember correctly)..

OR.. Loaded up with a 15L Clark tank I had a 180-210 mile range.

Thanks to you both. I should be researching the S and not the E then!

Probably... For two weeks riding the dunes in Morocco, go for the E...

For an overland trip.. It's got to be the S

It is the latter. So the S is in the mix with a couple of other contenders.
Cheers.

If you want my advice (for what it's worth), unless you're taking almost zero luggage and doing some fariy rough off road riding, don't bother....

It's slow and uncomfortable and long days on the highway are miserable.

Thanks Ted (I have read your blog / website!). What do you reckon to the DRZ650 then? If you can get hold of one in the UK that is.

I guess you mean the DR650SE ???

I've never personally owned one but i've travelled through Africa with some people on them.. They LOVE THEM and I could see why.

They had a nice cruising speed, were almost as capable offroad as my 400, had more comfortable seats, nicely balanced engines and were air cooled..

I'd buy one in a second If I could find a good one near me...

I'm sure there'd be a market in the UK for a container full of late, clean DR650s.

How much would you be prepared to pay for a brand new one? If enough people stump up the cash I would be prepared to buy and ship a few back for you - you pay the VAT though... GBP is good against USD right now and getting better; also, for five or more I could probably negotiate a pretty good deal on new bikes which are not selling well in the US at all right now....

Its not just the tax (which is one of the hightest in Europe). You would need a SVA (single vehicle assessment) which is a few hundred pounds. Then you need to register and tax it (£130 ish).

I'm not sure how much of a demand there is. Only a few purist overlanders ! By the time you got to the country and paid all the shipping, duty etc, I fear you'd have to charge almost the same as a similar aged new 600Z Tenere.

I'd think i'd still rather have one of those than the DR650
