lowering a DR650SE, 2000 model

we are contemplating buying a DR650SE for my wife to ride and as she is only 5ft 2 3/4" tall i need to know what adjustments or modifications can be made to lower it.

can an extra hole be made in the bottom of the shock mount, how far can the adjusting rings be adjusted and would making different links help ?

also the bike has 41000 miles (65000km) on it, what can be expected to cause problems at this mileage and what is there to specifically look out for when purchasing.

thanks.

Do a site search on

trui dr650

Iris and Trui are two Belgian women who ride DR650's, and they aren't tall. I found 14 hits, you should find some good info. Write them for more if needed.

Hi,

Have done this myself. For the front just push the fork tubes up as far as they will go, without them touching the handlebars. Lowers about 35mm. No need to dismantle the forks à la Suzi instructions.

There is already a second hole in the rear shock. However, you must follow Suzi's instructions: remove the shock, remove the spring, remove the metal plate underneath it and install the alu spacer the other way round. This limits the suspension travel and is necessary, otherwise the clip holding the brake hose will hit the exhaust. When you put the shock back in you put the lower bolt into the upper hole. Lowers the rear about 40mm.

You need to shorten the side stand.

In the US Suzi sell a gel seat which is said to be lower and more comfy. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be available in EU.
