Help - dr650 carb probs in Peru!

Ahoy all. Have just spent the last 3 days riding 500km from cusco to Nazca.the bike would run ok for sometime then cut out completely. So far I've pushed the lady 6 km to towns. We've cleaned the carby twice. The second time the guy said he found some rubbish in a jet. But after thus yesterday I also run carb cleaner in the tank and 180km lAter coming downhill into puquio it durning again. I had to blow through the fuel line to get it going. I filled up with gas and now its running fine again! I had plenty gas left too and I run an inline fuel filter. Originally gas wasn't passing into the carb but now it is. The problem has gone away for now and I've changed the filter and spark plugs.

Any ideas? I've pushed a bike far enough this week.

Cheers,
Rossy.

Hi Rossy,

You might have got some crap gas, I got a couple of tanks of gas with water in it.

run the tank low, put the petcock to reserve and drain the dregs of the tank into a clear dry bottle and see whats in the bottom.

If theres some crap in there just pull the tank off the bike and empty out the gas, rinse it with clean gas and put some decent fresh stuff in there. Also drain the carb float and rinse out fuel lines with good gas.

if youve got a clear in line filter you can normally see water in it too.

Double check everything youve just changed, the plugs and electrical boots etc etc too, just to make sure.

Suerte Amigo !

Cheers Gipper

I´m not sure what the problem ended up being mate. After cleaning the carb the second time it went well for a while despite a couple hiccups. ran fine at sealevel for acouple of days then after coming down from altitude near Huaraz choked out again...and again etc.

thing is, new gas, and no problems! I thought on the road it might be shitty gas so i ran it on reserve only for a couple days and ran some carb cleaner through the tank. so far so good. prob not a carby prob but a fuel prob i´d say. I agree. Cheers for your advice mate! Suerte!

If it's still there, have you checked the small filter in the fuel pipe on the carb?
