Blinkers wont blink

The blinkers on my bike DR650 96 - are not blinking at low revs. IE so when I really need them (say in traffic at slow speeds) they just stay on instead of flashing. As I increase the revs the blinkers start to function again.

I have started tracing the wires back through the bike cleaning all connections etc. So far this hasn´t helped. Any suggestions anyone.

Your battery may be weak. The battery helps support the electrical system a low revs when the stator doesn't put out much power. BUt I figured it may not start if it were that weak. MAybe theres not enough juice to trigger the relay.

When the light doesn't blink is it dim? Also check to see if you have separate relay for the signals.

My guess would be weak battery or bad relay.
Thats probably where I would start. Battery being the most likely to fail.

I dont know if the battery is weak - the bike starts every time and is holding charge OK etc. May get a new one anyway - just because I dont want battery failure as I travel around Eastern Europe and I dont know the age of the battery in this bike (could be original ??). As for Relays - have to check as I dont have manual (ie wiring diagram ) for said bike at this stage. Blinkers definitely do not dim at low revs. One side functions OK at low revs - the other side does not.

If batt is not the culpret check your ground on that side and your alternater. I hate electrical problems. If none of that works get a tester that will check conductuiety (sp) you may have a partial break in a wire that is causing more resistance on one side than the other. Or it may be the batt and one side draws more juice than the other. There are about a million other little things that can drive you nuts. Good luck.

When I first read your post I assumed for some reason one side worked and the other didn't. I re read your post and it didn't actually mention it.

Thats why I asked about about how many relays. You very well could have two relays one for each side, and one has failed.

If you need, I can look at the manual tomorrow at work. probably will anyways.

Thanks for the reply´s. I will get onto it next week and do some serious fault finding - and I have sourced a tester. Will let you all know the results. Am also fitting a new Hepco Becker luggage rack and side racks. The total cost is 214 Euros if sourced in Germany. This will also require me to move rear blinkers onto the new luggage rack mounts. Being distracted by lovely Australian girl in Amsterdam this weekend. Ah! life on the road is great.
