Smile Sv650

Hi
A friend has just got herself a 2005 SV650, any one know if there is any known problems with them any thing she should watch out for or keep an eye on. She will be doing some light touring around the UK and Europe so any mods about to make things a bit easyer for her while traveling and any recomdations on tires. Cheers Skip

Check out www.sv650.org - UK based SV650 resource - Main, it's a goldmine of info on these excellent bikes. If i recall correctly the early ones had issues with camchain tensioners but you g/f's model should be sweet on that account. I had an early one and was very impressed with it, the only issue was the rear rack is only held on by two bolts so was overloaded with only a sandwich in it! I'd be really interested in what mods you guys do...

Hmmm, you're right, the site doesn't seem to be loading - keep trying though, the site's ace.And the '01 model year was an affected one if i remember, so if the bike's sounding like a bag of spanners have it checked out

Older SV650 Okay

I had a 2001 SV650 from new and did lots of miles in UK and Europe without a hiccup. I think, but please check, that the rattling problem only affected the first model year of the bike which must have been late 90's I guess.

If your friend has the S version with fairing then beware the agony of aching wrists on long runs, riding position is more sports than touring. The unfaired version sits a bit more upright.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
