DR650 Wiring Loom query
HI,I've got a 96 DR650,one of the last SP45A's .The previous owner had a bit of a mis-hap while welding the rear of the exhaust and melted a good part of the wiring, telling me this before taking my money must have slipped his mind but I've moved on from the wanting to maim him phase and just want it fixed.I've found a good condition loom from an SP43A,the RSE model.Apart from the extra exhaust and the headlamp cowl on the RSE they look very similar to me.My query is will the "43" loom fit my "45",the one I've found is very cheap and guarenteed,I've got a mate who's an electrical wiz so a bit of adapting isn't a problem,am I right in thinking that both machines are almost the same apart from the cosmetics? Thanks in anticipation.

I think they are both electric start, so you could be in luck. For more knowledgeable info try these two forums:

http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/DR650/messages (I see you have already posted there)

Suzuki DR 650 Seite (German, but they understand English and there are more older bikes like yours around than in the Yahoo forum, which is mainly populated by SE owners in the US.)

Another thing you can do, fairly easily: remove tank and line up the new wiring loom and check all the connectors. If they match then there is a good chance that it will work.

Thanks for that mate,I found the loom on-line and it's not local so comparing isn't an option and they'll only take it back if it's faulty, which I guess is fair enough.Been told elsewhere that they're the same bike with different bodywork basically.
Frame number of the potential donor bike begins SP43,mine's SP45,I was wondering whether the SP4 is the frame part no and the following number the year of manufacture.I'll mail the seller my frame number,as he's now asked me to in reply to my query, and also try the German site, thanks again.
