DR650 - Very few around?!?!

I am interested in the DR650 is it's said to be the lightest 650 of thebunch and able to be lowered significantly.

having done a few searches I am surprised to find that there are VERY few available second hand. Why is this?

Is it because ther are so few out there or is it becasue peoplelike them so much they don't want to sell them?

The SE model you are referring to was launched about '96 when the big trailie boom was almost over. It wasn't sold in large numbers in Europe and there are almost none in GB. I don't know anything about the Namibia market, though. It is still being sold in the US, OZ and TR.

We own two of them and I wouldn't recommend them for travelling. The build quality seems inferior to, say, Honda. There is little available in accessories. The seat is hellishly uncomfortable. The engine doesn't run below about 3000 rpm (except in 1st gear), so you are forever changing gears.

Phone Paul Goodall @ Goodalls Motorcycles in Didcot, Oxfordshire. He has some sort of DR650 that he's thinking of selling: 01235-812766.

Make sure to buy only the SE model. Must have SP46 in the chassis number. All the older models are heavier and I have read lots about engine probs. Also see thread on engine grenade for the SE.

I have a sweet SP46A for sale and it's in top condition and not too far from Windhoek.
But it's in the current BikeSA and you better email me quickly or it's gone

must also speak against beddhist: Took my DR 650 myself to the from Windhoek to the Kunene as well as Pretoria - Swazi - Transkei - Cape.
Many happy customers having done trips in the Cape provinces between Oranje and Kei.
I still would call the SP46A one of my favourite bikes although the MZ Baghira is a tough contender esp. looking at the superb suspensions and brakes.

KLR tend to dominate the used market, I think because there are more of them out there.

I gave up on finding a used DR and just bought one new (they're cheap anyhow). I love it.
