dr400 valve timing
ihave rebuilt engine with new rings starts with afew kicks but has top end rattle under load ?could valve timming be a tooth or two out had difficulty finding a manual i require timing details or manual location. bike is a 1980 dr 400 i use for classic scrambles

Rattle under load does sound like ignition timing is too advanced but that's an electronic ignition motor, right? Is there any adjustment that may have been set wrong? maybe a stator plate not in the right place? If the cam chain is a tooth out, then the rattle could be valves and the piston having a too close relationship.... Not a good thing for a motor.
