DR 650 Gas tank Change from Original to Plastic
 

Hello Forum how are you, so many time with out contact you, I was out of my Country, but now comeback to forum discussion.
Recently I bought a Acervis Tank 20 Ltr, to increase the Gas average, I am thinking to get 400 Km/ tank, now I take off the Original Tank, but on the original Petcock are attached a vaccun hose, according to taller manual information this vaccun sistem is for open the Gas trough.
When I take the New Plastic tank the petcock is very simple and no vaccun connection exist,:nono: please somebody of the forum know or has experience in how to do with the vaccun hose when change the Gas Tank fron the original to Plastic one????:taz:
Other question is if neccesary to use the two petcock that comming on the plastic tank????c?

All you have to do is plug the vacuum line so it can't draw air and upset the carburettor mixture. You can do it in various ways but I find the simplest is a small bolt of the right diameter (tight fit) twisted in works fine - but in reality anything that gives a positive seal works well. Remember now you only have a manual tap so you should switch it off when you stop or you are relying on the carburettor float valve to seal perfectly. If it doesn't the consequence are (i) fuel coming out the overflow - not good, messy but not disastrous, or (ii) fuel overflowing from carburettor into cylinder via an open intake valve - rare but potentially disastrous as it can cause a hydraulic lock and lots of damage when you next try to start the engine.

Regarding the second tap I've no experience of the Acerbis tanks - b ut I do know that here in Australia a lot of people who have the Safari tanks do not bother to connect the second tap up. If they need the last bits of fuel trapped on that side of the tank they simply lean the bike over to slop the fuel to the connected tap on the other side. people who don't use the second tap usually fit a short length of blocked fuel hose on the outlet so that if it is accidentally switched on it doesn't pour over the header pipe.

Yeah spot on. I plugged mine with fuel hose, kinked over and a cable tie to pinch it. I have a 30L safari tank and use both fuel taps. have no problem, but maybe acerbis is different.
