Question Rear shock/suspension for DL650

Dear all,

After waiting for 2 months for a spanking new WP rear suspension shock to be delivered for my Wee, I got told that due to factory problems they don't know when/if they will be able to deliver it.

Which leaves me with the stock shock, already 65,000 km on it, and the prospect of riding to India on it!

Apparently there is an Ohlins shock for the DL1000 - does anyone know if it will fit the 650?

Also, what have people used for after-market shocks for overlanding on the DL650? Any experience/links appreciated, as I'm supposed to be on the road in less than a month!

Thanks

Alexandros

Have put an Ohlins on my 650. Shock model # OS-SU 823. Very happy with it and it has given me 40mm more ground clearance. I would suggest you have a good talk to an Ohlins agent. they come with a standard rated spring but talking with the agent, I dealt with and where and how i intended to use the bike he suggested the next spring rating. Very happy with the set up. Handles on the tar and gravel/dirt far better. Was happy with what came with the bike, but even more so now. Safe travels.

Elka also makes a shock for the 650, pricey though.

I ended up installing the Ohlins 46PRCS

Did it at KAIS Performance in Manchester. This shock is for the Vstrom 1000 and thus does not fit the 650 as is (the reservoir doesn't fit next to the ABS unit). Thus it was removed and a remote reservoir was installed with a hose connecting it to the main unit. I lost the compression damping adjustments with this change, but it's the only way the thing would fit, and given the time pressure, I had to get something better that the stock shock... very pricey (a good £800+), I hope it will be worth it in the long run.
