Bandit cams

I recently had the valves adjusted on my 2004 1200cc Bandit. Each cam lobe face was found to be pitted or scored. There is less than 12,000 miles on the engine and it has always been maintained. Unfortunately, the problem was discovered shortly after the end of the warranty period.
Have others had this problem? Should I take it to a dealer and make a fuss? To avoid a repeat, where could I look for replacement cams?

Take it back to the dealer, you've got nothing to lose. A problem like this appears gradually & has cannot have occurred after the warranty expired.

i gree go back to the dealer. Nothing to loose. The cams should not have been pitted and scored after only 12,000 miles unless it was run without oil, even then it don't seem right.

This is a known problem with Bandits. If the dealer says he never heard of it, tell him he's full of crap. Don't know if that helps you, though.

Kawasaki Concours, which I have one of, have exactly the same issue. I was told by my dealer that this is a "cosmetic" issue and will not be repaired under warranty. In his defense, my bike was well out of warranty when I adjusted the valves and saw the pitting on the nose of the cams. 10,000 miles later I just did the valves again and it is worse, with some light scoring this time as well. I'm going to run it to the next valve adjustement and hope for the best.

did you sort them?

If not and I would think the dealer should have swapped them if there any good. If not to be honest ebay is as good as anything else but part finder is a good one if in the UK. I had the same problem and just left them and still going strong, look in the back of motorcycle news as some one will be breaking one. People have a tendency to crash bandits so spares are easy to find
