Yellow Paper in Lusaka

is there an address to get a motorcycle insurance (COMESA yellow paper) in Lusaka?

Hopefully somebody can give you an exact gps point, but if not, from vague memory it was the 'State Insurance' company or something smilier when i bought in Livingstone a few years ago...

Government run insurance place basically...

i know you are asking for lusaka but if it is possible for you livingstone is indeed also a good place as roamingyak says. we went to two places there because after 2 bikes they finished the papers at one place. the best and cheapest place was an insurance company at: ''Falls Park Shopping Centre, Mosi-Oa-Tunya, Livingstone''. type it in at google.maps.com and you find it!! i don't know the name of the company but if you are on the parking you will see it.

this information is from last summer (july 2012). do you travel north or south or just around? it will cost you about 30-60 minutes in the office. but if you travel to 2 countries or more where you can use it, it is definetily worth it!!!

My bike is parked in Lusaka, from there I will head east. Therefore Lusaka will be the only possibility before entering Malawi (and as I know the Zambian police they will stop me before I even left Lusaka ).

We did NOT get COMESA insurance and were stopped in Zambia three times and asked about it. Two of the times we said we were covered and the third the guy wanted to see everything, so we showed him our insurance (not COMESA, but valid) and he wouldn't accept it and so after about 20 minutes we agreed we would buy it when we reached Livingstone (we were coming from Lusaka and it was a Saturday).

Obviously, we did not as we were then going to be leaving the country shortly. We had joked saying we would get COMESA insurance once someone stopped and asked for it, but at this point we had been through every country since Egypt and no one had. So, with Zambia being last on the COMESA list, we decided to forgo.

Of all of the police that we encountered, the Zambian were generally the most "on top" of things...as in, they knew the laws, and generally intended to enforce them. In Zimbabwe, on the other hand, they would make up laws and try to get you to bribe them. There were sections of road where we would be stopped and looking ahead we could see the next police stop. Between Victoria Falls and Hwange we were stopped probably 20 times.

Well, in the past we did most of the countries without insurance. Maybe I am getting older...
The main point is that Zambia does not easily accept foreign insurances. In case of an accident they might refuse to let you leave the country. So imagine you are insured seriously and you are not allowed to go to a hospital abroad.This is at least what they explained to us the last time and what I also heared from other travellers.

Interesting, the explanation I got was somewhat similar, the officer said the reason is that many times it is difficult for the Zambian national to collect or deal with the foreign insurance company, so there is sort of this lack of comfort with seeing non-Zambian based COMESA insurance.

Granted, it seems it isn't a legal thing as much as it is a convenience thing. I never was able to find a law to support it, but the officer didn't say it was a law.

Honestly, if I were there more than a couple of days and was hassled about it, I would buy it. That just wasn't the case for us last year.

Hi,

We just got our comesa and insurance in Lusaka yesterday, without any troubles. We went to Nico Insurance (Address : Plot 1131 Parirenyatwa Road Fairview). We paid some 375kw (some 55 euro) for three months insurance and the yellow card.
